Gulls Training Camp Roster Announced

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls, who began workouts on Friday, announced their training camp roster. Some 27 players were invited to camp, which includes 16 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders.

Returning to the Blue and Orange from last season are forwards Mark Pederson, Sylvain Deschatelets and Billy Tibbets; defenseman Mike Garrow and goaltender Trevor Koenig. Pederson and Deschatelets tied for the club lead last season with 81 points, which ranked sixth overall in the ECHL. Tibbetts led the Gulls with points per game average, knocking in 1.325 points a game. Garrow led all San Diego defensemen with 41 points, while Koenig was second in the ECHL with 37 wins.

San Diego also has two defensemen under contract with the American Hockey LeagueÂ’s Cincinnati Mighty Ducks: Andrew Canzanello and Ian Forbes. Sean OÂ’Connor, who was signed by the Gulls in early September is currently in training camp with Cincinnati.

Mathieu Chouinard, who was signed in late September, joins the Gulls after spending the majority of his career in the AHL. He was called up to the NHL last season, appearing in one game for the Los Angeles Kings. Chouinard was the 15th overall draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He re-entered the draft in 2000 and was a second round selection of Ottawa.

The San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa will host the majority of training camp for the Gulls. Sessions will take place Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Iceoplex in Escondido will also host workouts on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. All practices are open to the media and public.

San Diego has two preseason games scheduled against the Long Beach Ice Dogs: Friday Oct. 15 at Glacial Gardens and Sunday Oct. 17 at the San Diego Ice Arena.
