Las Vegas, NV, Sept. 22, 2004 – The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football" and US Army, awarded Alex Toney of Centennial High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the fourth week of the 2004 high school football season.The Gladiators and US Army, will honor Toney by making a $250 donation to the Centennial High School athletic department.
In Centennial's second win of the season, the junior tailback led the Bulldogs to a 49-6 victory over Chaparral High School on Friday, September 17. Toney led the Bulldogs offense with 155 rushing yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. He also tallied two solo and two assisted tackles to go along with one pass breakup on defense.
White also excels off the field well as he holds a 4.01 cumulative GPA.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The US Army provides direction for detailed planning, preparation and execution of the full range of tasks necessary to provide relevant and ready landpower to the Nation while maintaining the quality of the all-volunteer force.
