DENVER – Kroenke Sports Enterprises, owner of the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth, today announced plans to build at 20,000-seat stadium in Commerce City, Colo., and, while the stadium is designed for soccer, the Mammoth and youth lacrosse programs will share the facilities.

In addition to the 20,000-seat stadium, plans for the 360-acre complex call for fields outside the stadium including two regulation sized soccer fields and up to 20 practice fields. Commerce City will relocate its government offices to the site and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will build its offices and a visitors center for the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Refuge which abuts the planned stadium's property.

"It's always been our intent to create a multi-purpose outdoor facility," Kroenke Sports COO David Ehrlich said. "While the stadium will be home to the Colorado Rapids, it is our goal to make this the center of youth lacrosse in Colorado.

"The success of the Mammoth has shown this region the potential for growing lacrosse and we will vigorously pursue that growth with what is offered at this facility," Ehrlich continued. The complex, according to Ehrlich, will be used for educational programs, team practice sessions and tournaments.

Colorado Mammoth general manager Steve Govett is equally enthusiastic. "This is a great youth market and it's growing every season," Govett said. "We could do player clinics every single day and not meet the demand for lacrosse education. The new stadium gives the Mammoth a platform from which to teach young athletes."

Kroenke Sports will break ground on the stadium in January with a Spring 2007 scheduled opening.
