June 17, 2004 - International League (IL)

Triple-A Baseball is pleased to announce that fans around the world will once again be able to listen to the Triple-A All-Star Game through Sporting News Radio, the nation's largest sports radio network, and Armed Forces Radio. 2004 will mark the fourth consecutive season Sporting News Radio will provide satellite uplinking for Triple-A Baseball's annual mid-summer classic. The 2004 Triple-A All-Star Game will air live at 7:00 pm eastern on July 14, 2004 from McCoy Stadium, home of the International League's Pawtucket Red Sox, with Sports Radio 790 "The Score" in Providence serving as the flagship station.

Sporting News Radio was founded in 2000 when Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen merged two of his corporations, The Sporting News and the One-On-One Sports Network. By themselves, the two entities were well-established, and their merger created a powerful sports entity. The Sporting News, founded in 1886, is the nation's oldest sports publication and includes a weekly publication, annual preview magazines, sports books, and the sportingnews.com website. One-On-One Sports was founded in 1991 and reached 13 million listeners across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean and continues to do so as Sporting News Radio.

Broadcasting out of Chicago to 425 affiliates, Sporting News Radio airs live programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Using resources from the Sporting News publications, the network features daily sports call-in talk shows, remote coverage from major sporting events, interviews with marquee athletes, coaches, experts, and executives, and weekend game-day coverage. In addition, Sporting News Radio is streamed through its website, AOL, and Yahoo and reports breaking sports news three times an hour through the SportingNewsFlash!.

PAWTUCKET'S FREED & HYDER JOIN TUCSON'S DOLAN FOR ALL-STAR BROADCAST

A trio of Triple-A radio personalities have been selected to announce the 2004 Triple-A All-Star Game. Pawtucket play-by-play man Andy Freed will be joined in the booth by Tucson Sidewinders' broadcaster Brett Dolan. Reporting from the field will be the second member of the PawSox regular season broadcast team, analyst Steve Hyder. All three will be making their Triple-A All-Star Game radio debut.

Andy Freed is currently in his 4th season with the PawSox and 11th as a radio announcer in Minor League Baseball. While a student at Towson State University, Andy ran the college's radio station and served as broadcast assistant on the Baltimore Orioles' flagship station. Upon graduation in 1994, the Ellicott City, Maryland native, spent two seasons with the St. Lucie Mets (Florida State League), then joined the Trenton Thunder, a Boston affiliate in the Eastern League in 1996, where he served as Director of Broadcasting and Director of Media & Public Relations. The 32-year-old Freed, who has also done radio and television work for the Rider and Providence College basketball teams, began his current tenure with Pawtucket prior to the 2001 campaign.

Like Freed, Tucson's Brett Dolan is in his 11th season in Minor League Baseball, but is currently in his fifth year with the Sidewinders. Dolan, a native of Casey, Iowa graduated from the University of Iowa in 1992 and accepted his first broadcasting position with the Beloit Snappers (Midwest League) in 1994. He spent two seasons with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs from 1998-99 before joining Tucson prior to the 2000 season. In addition to his work with the Sidewinders, Brett has been selected to broadcast nine Montreal Expos' games. Dolan, who covers Arizona Wildcats football & basketball for various radio networks during the off-season, has twice been honored by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association as the Arizona Sportscaster of the Year (2002, 2003).

Although he is in his first season with the PawSox, veteran broadcaster Steve Hyder is no stranger to the Sporting News Radio Network, hosting the nationwide "Steve Hyder Show" on the network in 1999 & 2000. The 42-year-old Hyder's varied sports background includes three seasons as the voice of the IL's Syracuse SkyChiefs (1997-99), a ten-year run as a play-by-play announcer and color commentator for the Syracuse University football and basketball teams, and hosting several call-in radio shows in both Syracuse and Columbus, OH. Hyder, a native of Newport, RI and a University of Massachusetts graduate, returned to his roots in January as he was selected from 144 nationwide applicants for the PawSox vacant radio broadcaster position.
