Survivor Rupert to appear at Grizzlies game

May 21, 2004 - Frontier League (FL) Gateway Grizzlies

The Gateway Grizzlies are proud to announce that Rupert Boneham, star of CBS' Survivor: All-Stars will appear for the Grizzlies June 16.

Rupert, arguably Survivor's most popular contestant, was recently voted by viewers as the winner of a one million-dollar prize during Survivor: America's Tribal Council.

Rupert will address the crowd as well as throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the 7:05 game against the Springfield/Ozark Ducks.

The Grizzlies have also planned a "Survivor Night" for the game. Activities will include a Rupert look-a-like contest, Rupert/Survivor trivia, a spear fishing contest and other Survivor-themed games and activities.

Grizzlies players and staff will wear special tie-dyed shirts in honor of Rupert's most notable wardrobe piece. The Player's jerseys will be auctioned off for charity following the game. The specific charity that will benefit is Kid's Hope, a foundation that Rupert has started to teach skilled trades to troubled teens.

"This has been a project of mine for some time," Grizzlies General Manager Tony Funderburg said. "I am a big Survivor fan, but even if you're not a Survivor fan this is going to be a fun night!"

Despite his popularity and demanding appearance schedule, the Grizzlies are the first professional baseball team to have Rupert appear at a game.

Tickets are currently on sale and are available by calling the Grizzlies at 618-337-3000 or visiting the GMC Stadium box office. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.gatewaygrizzlies.com.
