Georgia Force News Release

ATLANTA, GA. – The Georgia Force announced today the addition of a familiar name to the organization that played a pivotal role in the team’s successes over the Force’s first two years. Interim Head Coach Bob Kronenberg has named the Force’s all-time passing leader and former Georgia Tech quarterback Donnie Davis as Offensive Coordinator.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to get back into the AFL and again be involved with the Georgia Force,” said Davis “I am looking forward to helping this team get back on the winning track and working with Leon in making him the quarterback he was last season and I know he can be.”

Interim Head Coach Bob Kronenberg explained, “Making the decision to add Donnie to our staff was simple. He is a veteran of this league and was a very intelligent player. Donnie knows the players in our locker room both as teammates and competitors, so he will have an understanding on how to bring the best out of them.”

Donnie Davis embarks on his first coaching stint bringing with him six years of Arena Football League playing experience, including two years with the Georgia Force. Before retiring during the 2003 season, Davis held a 10-8 record as a starting quarterback with the Force and left as the team’s all-time leader in passing yards, attempts, completions and touchdowns. Davis began his AFL career with the Arizona Rattlers in 1997 and finished his rookie season in dramatic fashion. Stepping in for an injured Shedrick Bonner, he led the Rattlers to an ArenaBowl XI championship and earned Game MVP honors. After three seasons in Arizona, Davis went on to play for the Milwaukee Mustangs before coming to the Force in 2002. For his career he completed 701-of-1,118 passes for 8,192 yards for 138 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.

Davis ended his collegiate playing days at Georgia Tech in fifth place on the Yellow Jackets career passing list with 3,261 yards, and fifth in career completions with 279 and touchdown passes with 22. He also stood sixth in total offense with 4,010 yards rushing and passing and seventh in touchdown responsibility with 29. As a prep at Cummings High School in Burlington, N.C, Davis was a Parade Magazine prep All-American, North Carolina Player of the Year and was rated as the number one quarterback by SuperPreps and Maz Emfinger. He set a national record throwing for 4,478 yards his senior year and helped lead Cummings HS to a remarkable 55-2 record, winning two state championships during his four years.

Coming off their BYE week, the Georgia Force return to action as they head to Columbus, Ohio to meet the Destroyers on Sunday, May 9th in Nationwide Arena at 3:00 p.m. A network-TV sport, the AFL celebrates its 2nd season on NBC in 2004.
