WHAT IF…
If Philadelphia defeats Las Vegas, it would…
· Give Philadelphia their first franchise victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators
· Give Philadelphia a 4-2 record on Saturday’s and a 4-1 record when televised on UPN-57
· Give Soul head coach Michael Trigg a 79-80 overall career record, including the post season

THE COACHES CORNER…
MICHAEL TRIGG: Hired to guide the expansion Philadelphia Soul, Trigg (75-73 reg. season, 3-7 post season) spent the last six seasons with the Grand Rapids Rampage. Trigg has led his teams to eight playoff appearances and an ArenaBowl in 2001, when he was also named AFL Coach of the Year. A veteran of expansion endeavors, Trigg spent 1994 as the head coach and general manager for the expansion Fort Worth Calvary (1994) and as head coach of the Milwaukee Mustangs (1995-97) he turned a 0-12 team into a two-time playoff participant and set the AFL record for single-season turnaround as he guided the Mustang’s from 4-8 in 1995 to 10-4 in 1996.

FRANK HAEGE: Haege led the Gladiators to the fourth-best record in the AFL and their first-ever playoff berth in franchise history in 2002. The 2003 season was the first for the Gladiators in Las Vegas and Haege led them to a second consecutive playoff appearance and an 8-8 record. Haege was named the second head coach of the New Jersey Gladiators on August 23, 2001. Haege brought with him six players and an assistant coach from the Steamwheelers. Previously, he spent two years as the head coach and director of football operations with the Quad City Steamwheelers (af2) in 2000 and 2001. Haege posted a remarkable 37-1 record, including an undefeated 2000 season. The Steamwheelers became the first AFL or af2 team to have an undefeated season. On August 10, 2001, Frank Haege made his mark in the af2 record books by leading the Quad City Steamwheelers to a 55-51 win over the Richmond Speed to secure a second-straight championship.

"It absolutely is my doing,” said Jaworski on ESPNews. “I couldn't accomplish it as a player where they would do me in a bobblehead, so I figured as president of the team we'll do a Jaws bobblehead."

WHO DROPPED THEIR FLAG?…

Ken Hinsley had the biggest game of his career in the Soul’s last second win over the Dragons.

Hinsley connected on all seven extra point attempts and a 52-yard field goal as time expired to raise the Soul to a 60-58 victory.

Hinsley also took lemons and made lemonade after a botched extra point snap turned into a converted two point attempt when Hinsley threw the ball off the rebound nets and into the arms of FB/LB Travis McDonald.

RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC…
Winfield Garnett was acquired by the Soul after being activated and waived from the Colorado Crush’s refused-to-report list. Garnett spent the 2001 season with the Minnesota Vikings and recorded 12 tackles along with two sacks.

Garnett starred in NFL Europe, recording 34 solo tackles and eight sacks in 2001 with the Amsterdam Admirals.

Garnett wasted no time leaving his impression on the Soul. In only his second game in gunmetal grey, Garnett teamed with Dwayne Missouri for their first sack of the year.

The Soul have given up only three sacks since Garnett was joined by Corey Mayfield, who spent the beginning of the year on injured reserve. Prior to Mayfield and Garnett the Soul gave up six sacks.

WHAT DID TRIGG SAY AT HALFTIME?
The Soul have given up only 116 points in the third quarter this season and have blanked their opponents in the third quarter in three games this season.

The Soul have given up an average of 9.6 points in the 3rd quarter per game. However, the Soul have scored only 105 points in the 1st quarter, and 102 in the 3rd quarter, an average of only 8.75 and 8.5 in the 1st and 3rd quarters per game, respectively.

The Soul have scored 30 more points in the 4th quarter than their opponent and have outscored their opponents by three in the second quarter.

The Soul took a season high 35 points into halftime against the New York Dragons as they scored 14 in the 1st quarter and 21 in the second quarter. In week 11, against Austin, the Soul took 34 points into halftime after scoring 14 in the first and 20 in the second quarter.

MAGIC NUMBER? 40.
The Soul are 5-4 when scoring more than 40 points in a game. Erase the 5 when the Soul score less than 40, the record drops to 0-3.

The Soul are 3-6 when giving up more than 40 points and 2-0 when giving up less than 40.

The Gladiators have scored 60 or more points in the last two games and have held their opponents to below 40 in both games as well.

GIVE ME A RING…
The Soul have eight players with AFL Championship experience as well as Head Coach Michael Trigg and assistant Head Coach Robert Smith.

Nick Browder Grand Rapids 2001
Gary Compton Tampa Bay 2003
Keita Crespina Tampa Bay 2003

Travis Seaton San Jose 2002

Michael Trigg (coach) Grand Rapids 2001

IN A RUSH FOR PAYDIRT…
The Soul are tied for 4th place in the AFL in rushing TDs with 24 TDs in 92 rushing attempts. Chris Ryan leads the team in rushing TDs with 13 while Travis McDonald and Ricky Ross each have three. Nick Browder and Derin Graham have each added two while Tyronne Jones has one.

DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT…
The Soul are ranked among the league’s best at defending 3rd and 4th down conversions. Soul opponents have converted the 5th lowest, 37 of 84 (44.0%) third down conversions. Opponents have also converted the 3rd lowest 5-of-12 (41.7%) on 4th down.

KEEP YOUR RECEIPT FOR RETURNS…
The Soul have the 3rd most missed field goal return yards in the Arena Football League with 200 on 11 returns. Tyronne Jones is ranked 6th in the AFL in MFG returns with six for 129 yards and one TD.

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT…
Joseph Todd ranks 6th among league leaders in combined tackles with 67.0, Todd has 57 solo stops and 10 assists. Todd is also ranked 8th in the league in solo tackles and is tied for 2nd in passes defensed with 18.

MAKING THE MOST…
Todd Hammel is ranked 1st in the league in passing yards per catch. Hammel has completed 98 passes for 1,401 yards for a league high average of 14.3 yards per catch. Hammel also ranks 4th in the league in passing yards per attempt with an average of 8.5 yards per attempt.

TURNOVER ALGEBRA…
The Soul have proven that turnovers can, but don’t always have the final say in a game. With a -10 turnover ratio, 13 take-aways, 23 give-aways, the Soul rank 16th in the league. The Las Vegas Gladiators have a -1 turnover ratio with 20 take-aways and 21 give-aways to rank 11th in the league. Both team have the same record although very different turnover ratios.

CHOO CHOO, SOUL TRAIN’S COMING THROUGH…
Chris Ryan, the Soul’s leading rusher with 40 attempts for 106 yards and 13 TDs has been a force in short yardage situations for the Soul.

“Soul Train” as he is known around town has had team game highs in rushing attempts (8), yards (27), and TDs (2, four times). Ryan is ranked 12th in the AFL in rushing.

Not only can Ryan rush, he is also a force on defense, with 15.5 tackles. Ryan is tied for the lead on the team with 2.0 sacks and four blocked kicks and has also recorded three fumble recoveries and three pass breakups and one tackle for a loss.

GO AHEAD AND GET DEFENSIVE…
His job is arguably one of the hardest in professional sports. Stop the offense in a league geared towards scoring. Coordinate the defense in a league where wide receivers get a head start on defensive backs. Good luck.

Soul defensive coordinator James Fuller has turned the Philadelphia defense into one of the most dominating groups in the Arena Football League.

One of the stingiest defenses in the AFL the Soul defenders are ranked 2nd in the Red Zone, 8th in scoring defense, allowing opponents only 47.5 points per game.

The Soul defense is also tied for the 5th best opponent passer rating, holding passers to a 105.8 rating. And with Joe Todd ranked tied for 2nd in the league in passes defended with 18, and 6th in tackles with 67.0, Fuller’s job has begun to look somewhat reasonable.

THANKS FOR SHOPPING, PLEASE COME AGAIN…
Madison Johnson noticed a similarity between Tyronne Jones and the convenience store 7-11 and it wasn’t the Slurpee’s. The two always seemed to be open, and a nickname was born.

Jones is the leading receiver for the Soul with 67 receptions for 879 yards and 16 TDs.

Jones is also the Soul’s leading return man with 34 combined returns for 679 yards and three TDs.

Jones is currently ranked 14th in the AFL with a 19.6 yard kickoff return average and has returned 28 kickoffs for 550 yards and two TDs this season.

Last week Jones had a game high nine receptions for 127 yards and one TD in the Soul’s loss to the Colorado Crush.
