KinstonÂ’s Garko Voted April POM

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Kinston catcher/first baseman Ryan Garko was voted the Carolina League’s Player of the Month for April in a poll of the managers.
Through games of May 3, the Stanford University product was leading the league with a .405 average (32 for 79), with three home runs and 19 RBI. His on-base percentage was .472.
Garko, 23, was drafted in the third round last June by the Indians. In 45 games at Mahoning Valley (New York-Penn), he batted .273 with four home runs and 16 RBI.
The right-handed hitter is a native of Pittsburgh, but now resides in Walnut, Calif.
