Earthquakes Aim For Champions Cup Comeback

The Earthquakes host Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense in the home leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday at Spartan Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT. The Quakes dropped the first leg of the aggregate goal series 3-0 at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela, Costa Rica on March 17. The Quakes must defeat Alajuelense by three goals to force overtime in the series and must win by four goals to win the series. In the first match, the Costa Rican champions got off to a quick start by scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Erick Scott scored off a corner kick in the 11th minute for the first goal of the game, and that was followed by Froylan Ledezma's goal just three minutes later to put Alajuelense up 2-0. The Quakes deficit grew to 3-0 when Luis Arnaez converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

The San Jose Earthquakes corporate and ticket offices are now operating out of a new location. The new address is 100 North Almaden Ave. San Jose, CA 95110. The Earthquakes ticket number, 408-985-GOAL, and web address will remain the same for your convenience.

First Time In San Jose For Donovan

Earthquakes forward Landon Donovan practiced with his club for the first time in the Bay Area in 2004. The 2003 MLS Cup MVP and national team stalwart has spent the majority of the off-season and preseason traveling and playing with the United States National Team. Donovan trained with the Quakes this year in Spain and was with the squad for their 3-0 loss in the first game of the Champions Cup last week, but this week marks the first time this year that Donovan will train with the Earthquakes in San Jose.

Quakes Welcome Canadian Trialist

Defender Kevin Harmse participated in his first day of practice with the Earthquakes on Monday. Harmse is on a ten-day trial with the Quakes after recently appearing with the Canadian Under-20 National Team at the FIFA World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates and in Olympic Qualifying with the Canadian Under-23 National Team.

Onstad Helps Build "Blocks For Growing Minds"

Earthquakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad appeared at the Martin Luther King Library in Downtown San Jose on Saturday, March 20. The 2003 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year participated in the "Building Blocks for Growing Minds" program and read a Dr. Seuss book to the children at the library before signing autographs.

Quakes Top Draft Pick Undergoes Successful Surgery

Earthquakes rookie defender Ryan Cochrane underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Friday, March 19. The surgery was performed by San Jose orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Ting, and is expected to sideline the Quakes top pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft for three-to-four weeks. Cochrane suffered the injury in the Quakes 2-1 exhibition loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on March 12. Cochrane, 20, was selected fifth in the 2004 draft as a Project-40 player out of Santa Clara University.

Quakes Form Partnership With Positive Coaching Alliance, Lalas Named to PCA National Advisory Board

In conjunction with the Earthquakes forming a unique partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), Quakes President and General Manager Alexi Lalas has been named to the organizations prestigious advisory board. Lalas joins an esteemed advisory board that includes former San Francisco 49er great Ronnie Lott, Oakland A's Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito, former North Carolina head basketball coach Dean Smith, Detroit Pistons head coach Larry Brown, former NBA star and senator Bill Bradley, Olympic Gold Medallist Summer Sanders and New York Jets head coach Herm Edwards. Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson serves as PCA's national spokesman. The Earthquakes-PCA partnership includes the Quakes honoring selected youth soccer coaches who demonstrate outstanding performance as a "Double Goal Coach". These coaches will be honored during three Earthquakes home games during the 2004 season. In addition, the Quakes-PCA partnership includes PCA coaches participating in the Quakes game observation clinics and appearances from Lalas, assistant coach Tim Hanley and Quakes players at various PCA events.

Individual game tickets for the Earthquakes 2004 season are now on sale. Individual ticket prices for the Earthquakes 2004 regular season are $45 (VIP), $25 (West Sideline), $15 (East Sideline and Corners) and $12 (Endzone). Youth and senior tickets are available for $12 on the East Sideline and Corners and for $10 in the Endzones.
