Dynamic Dou Returns For Encore Performance

October 2, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Cleveland Force News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO - Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced the team has signed the most prolific scoring tandem in indoor soccer history to contracts. Hector Marinaro and Zoran Karic fondly known in Cleveland as the “Dynamic Duo” have each signed contracts for one-year plus an option year. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“We are ecstatic that Hector and Zoran will be reunited for another season here in Cleveland. Like Michael and Scottie, Magic and Kareem, Kobe and Shaq this duo changes and electrifies the game of indoor soccer,” stated Garofolo.

With the signing of their contracts, the Force reunites the “Dynamic Duo” after a three-year hiatus, marking the first time the pair has played under the banner of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). The tandem last took the field together in the final game of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) Championship series on May 5, 2000. While both were members of the squad last season, Marinaro and Karic were unable to play together as Hector was sidelined with what was first diagnosed as post concussion head syndrome but later was determined to be temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

Marinaro, who saw countless neurologists and internal medicine specialists, was informed by Dr. Eric Lawrence that he had TMJ and not a head injury as previous symptoms had indicated. Dr. Lawrence read the article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer regarding Hector’s condition and contacted Garofolo to setup an examination. Paul then sent Marinaro to see Dr. Lawrence and after an examination, diagnosed Hector with TMJ. Dr. Lawrence then fitted Marinaro with a mouthpiece, which alleviated his chronic headaches and dizziness.

“I would like to personally thank Dr. Lawrence for taking the initiative to contact Paul and the Force office regarding my condition. Without his help and concern my career in indoor soccer might have come to an abrupt and premature conclusion,” stated Marinaro.

The pair began their unrivaled scoring dominance during the 1989-90 season their first of 11 consecutive seasons together. In the 11 years they spent on the field, Marinaro and Karic have combined for 4,046 points and have captured seven league Most Valuable Player Awards and three NPSL Championships. In the last two seasons in the MISL, the top 20 leading scorers have combined for a total of 3,724 points, 322 shy of the Dynamic Duo’s 11-year total. Add to that the fact that 188 of those points belong to Marinaro himself, and you begin to understand the incredible scoring power of the pair.

Marinaro, who will suit up for his 19th season of indoor soccer, will also serve as the Technical Director once again this season for the team. Hector, the game’s all-time leading scorer with 2,749 points, appeared in just 15 games last season while being sidelined with his ailment.

Karic, who will begin his 17th season of indoor soccer, returns as the all-time leader in assists with 825. Karic rejoined the Cleveland franchise late last season and appeared in four games and recorded one goal while adding four assists for a total of six points.
