Bakersfield Blitz News Release

(Bakersfield, CA) - With the game last weekend being determined a tie, the Bakersfield Blitz (7-7-1) have officially clinched a playoff berth in the 2003 af2 playoffs. The Blitz are currently in the sixth seed in the National Conference and have numerous scenarios in the first round. There is even a chance for the Blitz to host a home contest.

"We just have to go out there and play our game," said James Fuller, head coach. "We can't worry about what the other teams do this weekend. Our game is on Sunday, so we should have a pretty good idea of the playoff break down by then. The Islanders are a good team and we can't look past them. I'm only concerned with Week 18, Bakersfield at Hawaii."

The two teams have split their two contests this season. Each team has won on their respective home turf with Bakersfield defeating the Islanders in Week 4, 58-43 and the Islanders edging the Blitz in Week 7, 50-48. The two teams have combined for 952 yards of total offense and 199 total points scored in the previous contests.

"We have a job to do in Hawaii and that is to snag a "W"," said defensive specialist J'Sharlon Jones. "This game has been highlighted on our schedule throughout the entire season. They have a lot of weapons on offense, which will test our defense, but I think we're ready for them. It's going to be an all out war come Sunday."

In honor of fullback/linebacker Julian Yearwood the Blitz will wear black patches on their jerseys with the number 42 in the middle in white numbering.

Here is a breakdown of the possible 1st round scenarios for the Blitz:
