Ice Re-Signs Jason Baird

May 29, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Indianapolis Ice

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has re-signed left winger Jason Baird to a contract. The forward joins returning defensemen Bernie John, Ryan Aikia and Nate Elliott as the first four players inked for next season.

The 22-year-old Baird was the left anchor of the team's top scoring line last year that also included centerman Kevin St. Jacques and right winger Etienne Morin. He played in all 64 regular season games last season and finished the year second on the team in points (70), goals (26) and power play goals (8) and tied for first on the club with six game-winning goals. He also posted a (+18) plus/minus and 99 penalty minutes.

Highlights with the Ice also included a 12-game point streak which was tops for all Icemen last season and four games with three-or-more points. He also fared well in the playoffs by averaging a point a game with eight points (4G, 4A) in eight contests.

“Jason is a crucial part of our offensive attack especially in terms of puck handling and goal scoring,” said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. “Last year was only his second pro season so I look for his third year to be even better. He has the ability to score 30-40 goals for us next season.

In just two years of pro hockey with Indy and Cincinnati (ECHL), Baird has accumulated 109 points (44G, 65A) and 258 penalty minutes in 131 games. Before turning pro, he was a four-year standout with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League where he amassed 218 points (87G, 131A) and 699 penalty minutes in 245 career junior games.
