Stealth play Blaze in Pro Cup Semi-finals

The Houston Stealth (number 2 seed) will face the Chicago Blaze (number 3 seed) Saturday afternoon in the semi-finals of the National WomenÂ’s Basketball League 2003 Pro Cup. Game time is 4pm (CDT). The Tennessee Fury (number 4 seed) will play the Springfield Spirit (number 1 seed) in the other semi-final game.

Chicago advanced to the semis with a 75-70 victory over the Grand Rapids Blizzard Friday night. If Houston defeats Chicago, the Stealth would advance to the championship game, which takes place Sunday, April 13, at 3pm (CDT). The 2003 Pro Cup is being held at American International College, in Springfield, MA, Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 13.

The Stealth will attempt to defend its 2002 Pro Cup championship this. Last season, Houston won 3 games in 3 days to claim the title. However, since the Stealth (11-9) claimed a top two regular season finish, the Stealth earned a bye in the first round of the championship. As a result, Houston will have to win 2 games in two days to successfully defend its title.

The entire tournament will be webcast by Sports Radio Network (www.sportsradionet.com).

The StealthÂ’s roster consists of four Houston Comets players: forward Tina Thompson, forward Sheryl Swoopes, guard / forward Kelley Gibson, and center Michelle Snow. John Chancellor coaches the Stealth.

Ticket prices for the Pro Cup event are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 17. The Springfield Civic Center box office will be the outlet for tickets. Tickets may be purchased there, by calling 787-6600 or 1-800-639-8602 or at Ticketmaster outlets. The Springfield Spirit office will handle group sales (10 or more) only.

The NWBL is a professional womenÂ’s basketball league with franchises in Springfield, MA; Knoxville, TN; Chicago, IL; Birmingham, AL; Houston, TX and Grand Rapids, MI.
