Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew President/General Manager Jim Smith and Major League Soccer Executive Vice President of Marketing and Fan Development Mark Noonan announced today that national recording artist and popular rock band, Everclear, will perform at halftime of MLS's Opening Day on Saturday, April 5, at Columbus Crew Stadium.

The defending U.S. Open Cup Champion Columbus Crew takes on the defending MLS Cup Champion the Los Angeles Galaxy at 4 p.m. at Columbus Crew Stadium. The game is the only MLS game played that day and will be televised live on ABC Sports.

"Having a well-known, popular band perform at our home opener further enhances a terrific event," Smith said. "Everclear certainly has a large following and we are thrilled to be able to treat our fans to what should be a memorable halftime show."

The Capitol Recording Artist band is comprised of Art Alexakis (vocals/guitar), Craig Montoya (bass/vocals), and Greg Eklund (drums/vocals). They are currently touring promoting their new CD, Slow Motion Daydream.

"Everclear is really excited about being a part of Major League Soccer's opening game," said Everclear Tour Manager Jim Carroccio. "We have heard nothing but good things about Columbus Crew Stadium and are looking forward to a great atmosphere and an exciting game."

Among its many accolades are Billboard Modern Rock Artist of the Year, Five Top 5 singles from three Platinum-plus albums, A Grammy nomination, and over 8 million records sold worldwide.

"The league is thrilled that opening day will not only have a fantastic match-up on the field but a great musical performance at half-time that will add to the wonderful experience and value MLS is known for bringing to its fans," said Noonan.
