Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Corpus Christi- The Corpus Christi IceRays of the Central Hockey League today announce their 2002-2003 roster for the upcoming season. 17 players will be active for tomorrow night's home opener against the Laredo Bucks at Memorial Coliseum.

"I'm really happy with the make-up of our team," said Head Coach Al Sims. "I think we've got a good mix of speed, a good mix of both youth and veterans, and I think it's going to be a real exciting team. I believe that the fans are going to enjoy watching the speed and skill of our team."

The IceRays will begin the season with 10 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders on the active roster. Forward Jason Renard will begin the season on the 14-day injured list as will defenseman Byron Pool who rejoined the team today. Also rejoining the team was forward Ryan Prentice and he will begin the season on the 45-day injured list.

Perhaps the only major surprise out of IceRays camp was Sims' willingness to keep four rookies around for the start of the season. Defenseman Joe Savioli along with forwards Russell Hogue, Chris Hollens, and Lloyd Marks all survived the final cut.

"All four kids deserved to be on the team, and here they are, they're on it," said Sims.

The IceRays opened up training camp last Monday with 25 players; 18 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders. Last Thursday, defenseman Trent Brandvold was added to the training camp roster to bring the total to 26 players.

The IceRays kick-off their 5th Anniversary Season on October 17th vs. the Laredo Bucks at the Memorial Coliseum. Great ticket plans are now on sale and available by calling the IceRays Ticket Office at 814-PUCK (7825).
