67's Road Dominance Continues
February 6, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's extended their road winning streak to four-games Saturday night with an impressive 3-0 win over division rivals Peterborough. Ottawa collected a valuable two points on the shoulders of a 41 save shutout from goaltender Liam Herbst.
While the opening period finished scoreless it wasn't for a lack of opportunities from either side. The 67's looked dominant early and Nathan Todd would be denied by Dylan Wells on a penalty shot. At the other end of the ice, Wells' counterpart Liam Herbst also stood tall stopping all 12 shots in the opening frame.
The goaltending duel continued in the second period with Herbst making keys saves from close range keeping the Petes scoreless despite 27 shots on goal. With just over two minutes remaining in the second, Stepan Falkovsky converted on the powerplay scoring his eighth goal of the season from the point to put the Barberpoles up 1-0.
The 67's carried the offensive momentum into the third period with Dante Salituro scoring just over a minute in on the powerplay putting his team up 2-0 on his 30th goal of the season. The 67's strong penalty killing and great goaltending from Herbst continued in the period with Ottawa killing off a two-man advantage. Minutes after the huge penalty kill, it was Connor Graham going top shelf on Wells sealing victory for the 67's with a 3-0 score.
Salituro's third period goal extended his point streak to nine games (7G-8A-15PTS) and marks the second straight season he's scored 30 goals or more. Ottawa's four-game road win streak has seen them outscore the opposition 21-8.
The Ottawa 67's return to the Arena at TD Place on Tuesday, February 9 against the North Bay Battalion. Tuesday's match is a rescheduled game from November 8. Those who had tickets for the November 8 game can use that same ticket to get into the game on Tuesday night.
