67's Players Honoured, Families Recognized at Annual Awards Night

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Ottawa 67's announced the club's annual awards during a ceremony at TD Place on Tuesday night.

The winners are:

Rookie of the year: Mitch Hoelscher The 18-year-old Waterloo native came into his own this season after getting a six-game taste of the OHL last year. In 67's games during the 2017-2018 campaign, Hoelscher scored 10 goals and added 18 assists for 28 points.

Most valuable player/Top Scorer/Top Forward: Sasha Chmelevski The San Jose Sharks prospect had a career year this season. The California native set new career OHL highs in goals (35) and assists (41) and points (76) to lead the 67's in scoring.

Sean Monahan Award: Travis Barron The 67's captain is the inaugural recipient of the Sean Monahan Award, which recognizes the player for his leadership, courage and passion. Barron, a 67's first-round draft pick and Colorado Avalanche prospect, also received a video message from former 67's captain Monahan when he was presented with the award.

Top Defenceman award: Kevin Bahl The hulking blueliner has a breakout year for the 67's this year, easily eclipsing his rookie year totals in points with a goal and 17 assists in 2017-2018 while also being a regular physical force for the club.

Brian Kilrea Award: Noel Hoefenmayer Named after the legendary former 67's Coach and GM, this award is given to the player for their community service work during the season. Defenceman Hoefenmayer was a fixture at community events and was a key contributor to the 67's 50 for 50 campaign.

Ivan Tennant Award: Cedrik Andree Awarded to a player for outstanding achievement in high school academics throughout the season.

Bobby Smith Award: Kevin Bahl Awarded to the player for their work balancing hockey skills and academic, the award is named after former 67's great Bobby Smith.

Also recognized on the night was the players' families and billet families for their ongoing support and guidance through the OHL season.

Fresh off closing out the regular season, the 67's head to Hamilton on Wednesday to prepare for Thursday's series opener against the Hamilton Bulldogs. The series shifts back to The Arena at TD Place on March 27 and 28 for Games 3 and 4.
