Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's saw their comeback fall just short against the Flint Firebirds on Sunday afternoon, losing 5-4 in overtime, but still managed to score a point in a successful early-season road trip.

The overtime loss gives Ottawa a 1-1-1 record in their first extended road trip of the season, along with three of a possible six points.

The 67's clawed back from a 4-2 deficit in the third period, starting with forward Sasha Chmelevski scoring his second of the game with under three minutes to play in regulation. Drake Rymsha scored earlier in the final frame to close the gap to a single goal. Rymsha's tally was his sixth in five games to start the year, while Chmelevski has five points in his first four games of the year after missing the season opener.

The third period push was the second time in the game the 67's came back from down two goals after Flint went up 2-0 before the midway mark of the game. Chase Campbell cut the lead in half for Ottawa with just under eight minutes to play in the second before Flint once again restored its two-goal cushion. However, Chemlevski would score his first of the game 30 seconds after Ryan More made it 3-1 to make things interesting in the third.

Travis Barron and Austen Keating each had a pair of assists for the Barber Poles, while goalie Olivier Lafreniere turned away 27 of 32 shots.

Kole Sherwood, Nicholas Caamano and Luke Kirwan also scored for the Firebirds. Kirwin's second of the game was the winner, scored 1:14 into overtime.

The 67's will now return home from the road and begin preparing for Thursday's visit by the Kingston Frontenacs, followed by a matinee game at TD Place on Saturday afternoon against Saginaw.
