Ottawa 67's News Release

(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that Larry Skinner and Bobby Brooks have been hired as assistant coaches for the 2010-11 season. The two new assistants join long-time Goaltending Coach Tom Dempsey to round-out Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Chris Byrne's staff.

Skinner, an Ottawa native, is a former 67's player. In the 1975-76 season he had 37 goals and 78 assets for 115 points in 59 games and then moved-on to play in the NHL, AHL and Europe over a twelve-year professional career. He coached in the Central Junior Hockey League with the Ottawa Junior Senators and, most recently, with the Nepean Jr. A Raiders. "The addition of Larry Skinner to our coaching staff brings a lot of experience to our staff," said Chris Byrne. "His time in professional hockey and coaching will be of tremendous benefit to our players."

Brooks is from Acton, Ontario and has made Ottawa his home for the last five years. He was the video and skating coach with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL, and prior to that, he was an assistant coach with the Nepean Raiders, working primarily with the team's defencemen. "In Bobby Brooks, we are getting a coach who has strong background in teaching skating technique and he'll concentrate on player development. His knowledge of hockey video software will also be an asset to our players," said Byrne.

"I think the different experiences and area of expertise that these two coaches bring to the table give us a very strong staff, which will help our players develop and our team compete in every game this coming season."

Brooks and Skinner will be on the ice with Byrne, Dempsey and 67's players when training camp opens at the Civic Centre, September 2-4. Fans will get their first look at this year's team during its first pre-season home game, Sept. 12, against the Kingston Frontenacs. Ticket information is available at www.Ottawa67s.com.
