67's Fall Short on Campbell Jersey Retirement Night

OTTAWA, ON - An early deficit proved to be the difference for the Ottawa 67's Friday night. They dropped a 4-2 decision to the Barrie Colts.

The 67's threw 29 shots at Barrie netminder Kai Edmonds, but the Ottawa native stopped all but two of them for his first career OHL victory in his first start for the Colts.

A crowd of 5.642 turned out at The Arena at TD Place to witness an event only seen four other times in the history of the 67's franchise - a number retirement. Brian Campbell's No. 44 was raised to the rafters to take its place beside the rest of the Barber Poles legends.

After his career as a 67 ended with winning a Memorial Cup Championship in 1999, Campbell played over 1000 NHL games. He tallied 504 points in that span as a defenceman.

The game's scoring began with the visitors gaining an advantage in the first period by scoring the opening frame's lone goal. Zachary Magwood finished a passing play from Joey Keane by ripping a shot over Olivier Tremblay's shoulder.

Ottawa came out flying in the second, however, directing 10 shots at Edmonds in the Colts net and finally breaking through with their first goal at 14:44, when Oliver True wired a perfectly placed wrist shot top shelf for his first career OHL goal.

The 67's celebrations were short-lived, with Barrie coming back to score two minutes later with a goal from Lucas Chiodo.

Barrie added two more insurance markers in the third, before the 67's got on the board again in the dying minutes of the final period. Noel Hoefenmayer notched his second goal of the season on a shot from the blue line.

The 4-2 score held despite the 67's mounting a ton of pressure in the final minutes of the game with the net empty.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"(Barrie) played a solid game. It was their goalie's first start but he was solid. On our side, we didn't have a lot of cohesion and execution. It was tough for us to generate any good scoring chances. I give them credit - but at the same time we have to be better at executing."

GAME NOTES

Oliver True's first OHL goal came in his 18th game since signing with the 67's as an import forward. He has four points on the season. 67's captain Travis Barron played in his 200th OHL game, registering five shots. On the defensive side, the 67's killed six of seven penalties. The game was a rough one, featuring 105 penalty minutes combined between the two teams.
