Ottawa 67's News Release

(Ottawa 67's)

OTTAWA, ON - Despite 29 shots and a sprited effort in the third period, the Ottawa 67's couldn't solve the Niagara IceDogs. They dropped a 3-0 decision to an IceDogs team that took an early lead and never looked back.

Niagara netminder Stephen Dhillon made 29 saves in an impressive performance, earning a shutout against the powerful 67's offence.

The IceDogs wasted no time early in the game, and opened the scoring early. Matthew Phillip fired one through Olivier Tremblay at just 1:33 of the opening frame to put the visitors up 1-0.

Danial Singer's marker provided insurance at the other end of the period, where he finished off a pretty passing play at 19:39

Niagara's final goal was an empty netter off the stick of Elijah Roberts.

Sunday's 2 pm 67's game is the annual Teddy Bear Toss, in which fans are invited to throw new or gently used plush toys onto the ice when the 67's score their first goal. The toys will then be donated to Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

Head coach André Tourigny

On grinding when trailing in games... "It's human nature - when you trail, you try to make plays. You don't see any advantage to putting the puck deep and going to grind it. You want to make something happen. But you need maturity to understand that by grinding and putting pucks deep, you'll get a few shots through and you might get lucky. Or, your opponent will back off and give you the blue line."

GAME NOTES

Niagara fired 33 shots at Olivier Tremblay, and he was able to stop 30 of those shots. The veteran only conceded two goals against - with the final one coming against an empty net. Oliver True engaged in his first career OHL fight, dropping the gloves with Niagara's Elijah Roberts. The 67's were led in offence by man on the back end - 67's D Noel Hoefenmayer had a team-high six shots on Dhillon. With the loss, the 67's have now lost six of their last seven games. 67's single-game tickets start at $12 and are available at Ottawa67s.com/Single-Game-Tickets, by calling 613.232.6767 or in person at The Box Office at TD Place.
