Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports endured their longest nine-inning game of the season on Saturday night and also endured a lopsided loss to the Inland Empire 66ers. Inland Empire plated six runs over the first two innings on its way to a 9-2 win over the Ports to open a three-game series at Banner Island Ballpark.

Ports starter Evan Manarino (3-3) gave up a leadoff single to Brandon Marsh followed by a double to Jo Adell that put runners at second and third with nobody out. Jordan Zimmerman drove in the first run of the game with a sac-fly to center, giving Inland Empire a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Franklin Torres singled to drive in Adell. After a walk issued to Jonah Todd, David MacKinnan drove in a third run with an RBI single to right-center.

Stockton got a run back in the bottom of the first as Chase Calabuig doubled with one out and scored two batters later on a double by Sandber Pimentel. Inland Empire, however, would score three more runs in the top of the second. With runners at second and third and one out, Zimmerman delivered his second sac-fly in as many innings to make it 4-1. Connor Justus followed with a two-run homer to center to make it a 6-1 ballgame.

Manarino would suffer the loss, going five innings and allowing six runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two.

Inland Empire starter Luis Madero would be rendered a no-decision after going four innings and allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight.

Marc Brakeman (1-0) took over for the 66ers in the fifth and gave up a leadoff single to Brallan Perez, who scored two batters later on a triple by Luke Persico to make it a 6-2 game. Persico would be at third base with one out but was left stranded there after a Pimentel strikeout and a Brett Siddall groundout to end the frame.

Brakeman would go on to pick up the win, going three innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out two.

The 66ers enjoyed another three-run inning in the seventh at the expense of Ports reliever Brendan Butler. After an infield single, an error and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out, Torres drove in his second run of the night with a single to left to make it 7-2. Butler was lifted with one out and the bases loaded for Trey Cochran-Gill who would surrender a pair of bases-loaded walks that pushed the 66ers lead to 9-2.

Butler was charged with three runs (one earned) on two his over an inning-and-a-third. Cochran-Gill would not allow a run of his own in an inning-and-two-thirds.

Sam Sheehan struck out the side in order in the ninth.

Eduardo Rivera pitched two scoreless innings for the 66ers down the stretch to close out the ballgame.

Stockton pitching walked a season-high eight in the contest while the offense struck out 15 times, falling one short of a season-high.

The Ports and 66ers play the middle game of their three-game series on Sunday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Matt Milburn (6-3, 3.55 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Inland Empire right-hander Erik Manoah (2-7, 6.88 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. PDT.
