Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - Colorado Mammoth forward Adam Jones set a new National Lacrosse League record on Saturday night on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center against the New England Black Wolves when he scored the first goal of the game less than four minutes into the contest. It was the 56th-straight regular-season game with a goal for Jones, establishing a new NLL mark for consecutive games with a score.

During the streak, Jones has scored 153 goals including 22 hat tricks and four sock tricks (six goals in a game, which he's done in each of his previous two home games).

"Death, taxes, and goals from Adam Jones," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett in jest. "He's one of the game's most talented scorers. I'm so happy for Adam. He's worked hard to perfect his craft, and is truly one of my favorite people!"

Last Saturday, Jones moved into a tie with teammate John Grant, Jr. for the longest scoring streak in NLL history at 55 games. Grant's streak spanned from 2006 - 2011. Jones' streak began during his rookie season on Apr. 20, 2012 against the then-Edmonton Rush.

COMPARISON TO NOTABLE STREAKS IN OTHER PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL - Hitting streak

- Joltin' Joe DiMaggio recorded a hit in 56 straight games during the 1941 season. It's a record that still stands to this day. DiMaggio hit .408 (91-for-223) during the streak.

NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE - Point-scoring streak

- Wayne Gretzky registered at least one point in each of the first 51 games of the 1983-84 season while playing for the Edmonton Oilers. 'The Great One' scored 153 points (three points per game) during his streak.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE - Touchdown streak

- New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Johnny Unitas' record of consecutive games with a touchdown pass in 2012. Unitas' mark stood for more than half a century until Brees flew past him. Brees threw for six in 54 straight games.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION - Consecutive games scoring 30 or more points

- NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain owns the longest streak in NBA history of scoring 30 or more points in consecutive games. His 65-game streak in the 1961-62 season while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors was halted by a 26-point game against the Boston Celtics on Feb. 24, 1962. He went on to score 30-plus in the next 31 games, the second-longest streak in league history.
