5 Star Flores as Flash Advance to Semifinal
DALLAS, Texas- Edgar Flores had a hat trick and two assists as the Rio Grande Valley Flash advanced to the semifinal of the Ron Newman Cup by defeating the Dallas Sidekicks by a score of 8-5 at the Allen Events Center on Thursday night.
With the victory, the Flash swept the Sidekicks 2-0 and advance to the Ron Newman Cup semifinal round. The loss for Dallas was the first home defeat.
Edgar Flores had a first half brace including a shorthanded tally, as the Flash used 4 goals in the first half to take a 4-0 over the Sidekicks at the half.
The Sidekicks used a brace from Frank Mbemba in midst of a furious rally of four goals in the third quarter to tie the game at 4 apiece which included a power play goal.
The Flash answered back with three consecutive goals which included a power play goal and put the game out of reach for the Sidekicks as it was a 7-4 game.
In the last quarter, both teams traded a goal which ended the game at 8-5 in favor of the Flash which was scored by Edgar Flores to get the hat trick. Erick Flores also contributed with a pair of goals and an assist for the Flash in the victory.
The next game for the Rio Grande Valley Flash in the Ron Newman Cup will be on Sunday, March 10 when they take on the Detroit Waza Flo at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA with the kickoff set for a 6:00 pm CST
