St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 8, 2017) - Tuesday turned into another bullpen day for the St. Lucie Mets, and for the second straight day they pulled out a win over the Florida Fire Frogs. The Mets used five pitchers to post a 4-2 victory at First Data Field.

Scheduled starter Justin Dunn was a late scratch, so the Mets turned to reliever Josh Torres to begin the game. It was Torres' first start this season and he pitched 2.2 scoreless innings.

Gerson Bautista followed with 2.1 shutout innings to keep the game 0-0.

The Mets were able to break through by scoring all four of their runs in the sixth inning. Peter Alonso broke the scoreless tie with a two-run homer. It was his 15th home run of the season.

Jhoan Urena followed with a double. He went on to score on Wuilmer Becerra's infield single to make it 3-0 Mets. Jeff McNeil then ripped a double to right filed to plate Patrick Mazeika for a 4-0 lead.

Matt Gonzalez and Anfernee Seymour recorded back-to-back RBI hits with two outs in the top of the seventh off of Stephen Nogosek to cut the Mets lead to 4-2. Nogosek retired Stephen Gaylor on a long fly ball to escape further trouble. Nogosek was credited with the win.

Craig Missigman pitched a perfect eighth inning. Adonis Uceta struck out two batters in a clean ninth for his second save in two days.

Urena went 2 for 4. Both of his hits were doubles, bringing his total to 33 this season. That is one shy of the FSL lead.

Fire Frogs starter Ricardo Sanchez was pitching a shutout through the first five innings. He ended up allowing four runs, three earned, in 5.1 innings.

The Mets improved to 10-3 against the Fire Frogs this season.

The Mets (19-26, 52-61) and Fire Frogs (14-26, 39-67) conclude their series at First Data Field on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
