2018 QMJHL Draft Preview

SHAWINIGAN, Que. - The 2018 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft takes place on Saturday morning at Shawinigan's Centre Gervais Auto.

The Sea Dogs currently hold three first round picks for this year's draft, including the second overall selection. Fans can watch the excitement unfold on TVA Sports beginning at 11 a.m.

Along with the second overall pick, Saint John is also scheduled to select eighth and 15th. The eight overall pick - originally Gatineau's - was acquired in the Joe Veleno trade with the Drummondville Voltigeurs this past December. The 15th overall pick was acquired on Friday morning in a deal with the Rimouski Oceanic, which saw Saint John also pick up a fourth round pick in exchange for forward Cedric Pare.

Saint John currently has 17 selections in Saturday's 14 round draft - seven of which are in the first four rounds.

2018 QMJHL ENTRY DRAFT - TABLE PREVIEW

While all drafts are critical to a team's future success, this year is especially important as the Port City team begins a new junior cycle. The Sea Dogs hold the second and eighth overall picks in the QMJHL Entry Draft as well as first overall Import Draft Selection. Additionally, President & General Manager Trevor Georgie has indicated that he expects to be active leading up to Draft Day.

Sid Veysey

Head Scout - Atlantic Canada

A native of Woodstock, NB., Sid has been with the Sea Dogs since day one, beginning as a Nova Scotia scout before being named the Head Scout for Atlantic Canada in 2014. Sid experienced a very successful amateur and pro career playing in the QMJHL, IHL, CHL and finally NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. As Head Scout for Atlantic Canada Sid primarily follows the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League, NB-PEI Major Midget League and the Newfoundland Major Midget Hockey League.

Anthony Stella

Assistant GM & Head Scout

Anthony has been with the Sea Dogs for 4 seasons serving as a Quebec scout, and now as Assistant GM and Head Scout. Prior to joining the Sea Dogs Anthony served as Head Scout for the St-Leonard Artic of the LHJAAAQ. Over the past four seasons with the Sea Dogs Anthony has scouted over 1200 games throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, New England, and Europe.

Jeff Cowan

Associate Coach

Jeff played four seasons with the Saint John Flames of the AHL before a ten year career in the NHL with stops in Calgary, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. In 2014 he was named Assistant Coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs, eventually winning the 2017 President Cup Championship title. Jeff was promoted to Associate Coach for the 2017-18 Sea Dogs season.

Kevin Hill

Quebec Head Scout

A new face in the Sea Dogs organization this year, Kevin was a scout with the Drummondville Voltigeurs for four seasons where he worked closely with Drummondville Head Coach and Team Canada World Juniors Head Coach, Dominique Ducharme. As the Quebec Head Scout Kevin is responsible for tracking Quebec born players currently playing in the QMAAA, Quebéc Espoir, and LHJAAAQ
