2013 USL PRO Regular Season Schedule Released

Wilmington, NC - After months of planning and negotiation, United Soccer Leagues (USL) have released the official schedule for the 2013 USL PRO regular season. Two additional teams, VSI Tampa Bay FC and the Phoenix FC Wolves, have been incorporated into the 2013 schedule for their inaugural USL PRO season, therefore extending the start of the season one week earlier than last year.
The major announcement made on day prior to the 2013 USL PRO schedule release is that of the new partnership between USL PRO and Major League Soccer (MLS). Each USL PRO team will face a MLS Reserve team during the upcoming season, home and away. The Wilmington Hammerheads are scheduled to play New York Red Bulls Reserve at Legion Stadium on Saturday, June 15 and at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, June 30. These matches will count in the official USL PRO and MLS Reserve League standings.
The Wilmington Hammerheads will play a total of 26 regular season games. They are set to play 14 home games on their pitch at Legion Stadium, playing each team once with the exception of Antigua Barracuda FC whom they will play twice. The Hammerheads will kick off their season at home in front of fans on Friday, April 19 versus Antigua Barracuda FC. All games at Legion Stadium are scheduled for a prompt 7:30 p.m. kick off.
Following their first match, the Hammerheads are on the road with back-to-back matches on the West Coast versus the Phoenix FC Wolves and Los Angeles Blues on Friday, April 26 and Sunday, April 28.
As the regular season approaches, Head Coach David Irving and the Wilmington Hammerheads are preparing to host their second of three open tryouts at Legion Stadium on February 16-17 for players hoping to make the jump to the professional ranks and onto the 2012 USL PRO finalist team. The third and final Hammerheads combine is set for March 16-17 at Legion Stadium.
