 Winnipeg Blue Bombers

2006 Bomber schedule announced

January 27, 2006 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Canadian Football League released its 2006 schedule today and it contains plenty of good news for Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans.

One of the most appealing elements of the 2006 schedule is that it features the return of Friday Night Football to Canad Inns Stadium. The Bombers will play five Friday night home games including June 23 versus the Montreal Alouettes, June 30 versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Aug. 4 versus the Edmonton Eskimos, Aug. 25 versus the Ottawa Roughriders and Sept. 29 versus the B.C. Lions.

The schedule should also make it easier for the entire family to attend Bomber home games. Seven of the team's 10 home games will take place on either Friday or Saturday nights - five Friday night games and two Saturday night contests.

The first Bomber home game of the 2006 season will take place SUNDAY, MAY 28 at 2 p.m. and is a pre-season encounter with the Edmonton Eskimos. The Bombers open the 2006 regular season on the road SATURDAY, JUNE 17 at 7 p.m. in Calgary when they take on the Stampeders. The team's regular season home-opener is scheduled for FRIDAY, JUNE 23 at 7 p.m. when the Montreal Alouettes pay a visit to Canad Inns Stadium.

The third annual BANJO BOWL will be played SUNDAY, SEPT. 10 at Canad Inns Stadium when the Bombers host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at 1 p.m. It's one of four times the two archrivals will meet in '06. Winnipeg travels to Regina for a SATURDAY, JUNE 3 pre-season contest. The Bombers travel to Regina SUNDAY, SEPT. 3 for the annual Labour Day Classic. The two teams hook up for the third and final time of the regular season on SATURDAY, OCT. 21 at 6 p.m. at Canad Inns Stadium.

Winnipeg and the Calgary Stampeders will meet three times during the 2006 regular season - June 17 in Calgary, JULY 15 at 6 p.m. at Canad Inns Stadium and finally Oct. 15 in Calgary.

Bomber coach Doug Berry will square off against his old team, the Montreal Alouettes, twice. The first time will be June 23 for the Bombers' regular season home-opener. The second occasion will be Oct. 9 in Montreal.

Winnipeg and the Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos will meet twice in the regular season - FRIDAY, AUG. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Canad Inns Stadium and again Friday, Sept. 22 in Edmonton. They will also hook up in the Bombers' only pre-season home game, SUNDAY, MAY 28 at 2 p.m.

The CFL season will culminate with the 2006 Grey Cup championship, Nov. 19 at Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg.
