Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) - "Indescribable, you win two championships, and that's a great feeling, but this is on that level right now, I think we are doing something that no one in this franchise has ever done," stated Milwaukee Wave defender JP Rodrigues after the team extended their winning streak to 15 games with a win Saturday against Missouri. They look to hit 16 in a row Sunday when they welcome a Rochester team, with the MISL's two leading scorers to the U.S Cellular Arena.

The Wave's 29-15 victory over Missouri did more than just extend the team's winning streak; it also gave them home-field advantage in the first round of the MISL playoffs. The Wave got off to a slow start trailing 5-0 early, and 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams would trade goals in the second quarter, but Giuliano Oliviero would put one in the net for Milwaukee to give them a 12-11 advantage at half. Vahid Assapour of Missouri would score his second goal of the game early in the third to put the Comets back on top, but goals by Luan Oliveira and Fabinho of Milwaukee, gave Milwaukee a 17-13 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, after an early goal by Missouri's Leo Gibson, Milwaukee turned things up by scoring 12 unanswered points to clinch the win.

Rochester has struggled this season en route to a 7-14 record this season. It has been extremely difficult for them on the road, where their record stands at just 2-9. Despite the struggles the team does have the league's top two scorers in Doug Miller (89 points) and Mauricio Salles (73 points). They will head to Chicago on Friday to take on the Soul before coming to Milwaukee and trying to end the Wave's winning streak.

This will be the two teams third meeting of the season, the first a 13-6 victory for the Wave. In this matchup the Wave came out strong with a three point goal by Josh Rife and a score by Marcelo Fontana to give them a 5-0 lead at the end of one. Although Doug Miller scored to make it 5-2, the Wave continued to pile on with three point goals by Nick Perera and Joe Hammes, to give the Wave a 11-2 advantage heading into the half. Miller would add his second goal of the game early in the third quarter, and Rochester would score again in the fourth to put the game at 11-6. Fontana would add another goal to put the game out of reach and give the Wave a win.

In the second game the Wave would notch another win, this time beating Rochester 14-12. The Wave were led by Luan Oliveira who completed a hat trick along with two assists. Oliveira got the scoring going in the first to put the Wave up 2-0. Doug Miller would come back with two scores of his own, but goals by Marcio Leite and Ian Bennett put the Wave ahead 6-4 after the first quarter. Javier Ortiz tied things up early in the second, but Hewerton and Oliveira would each score to put the Wave on top 10-6 after two quarters of play. Oliveira completed his hat trick with the only goal of the third quarter, but a crazy fourth made the game interesting. Doug Miller scored first on a penalty kick, but Bennett scored again to give the Wave a 14-8 lead. Paul Craig and Stephen Basso scored to trim Rochester's deficit to 14-12, but they couldn't muster another goal, and the Wave would escape with a victory.
