14 Local Atom Teams Take to the Ice for Hockey Day in Rangers Nation 2016

The Kitchener Rangers hosted the 7th annual Hockey Day in Rangers Nation today at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

Hockey Day in Rangers Nation aims to engage the region's 10-year-old Major Atom house league hockey players, providing them the opportunity to participate in an authentic Rangers' game day experience.

The puck dropped on Hockey Day in Rangers Nation with KMHA AtoMc Orange taking on the Woolwich Wildcats.

KMHA ATOMC ORANGE 7; WOOLWICH WILDCATS 0

AtoMc Orange took a 2-0 lead into the third period and added five goals in the final frame to skate to a 7-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Miles Gulas gave AtoMc Orange a 1-0 lead at the 5:48 mark of the opening period, assisted by Thamas Morgan and Romeo Leal-Foltz for the lone goal of the frame.

The only goal of the second period came with just under three minutes to play, as Morgan was this time set up by Gulas to give AtoMc Orange a 2-0 lead, with Leal-Foltz picking up the second assist.

AtoMc Orange's offensive outburst of five third-period goals began just after the puck was dropped in the final frame, as Gulas buried his second of the game, from Morgan and Ethan Linhofer at the 14 second mark.

Gulas completed the hat trick just 44 seconds later, making it 4-0 AtoMc Orange from Morgan and Leal-Foltz at 58 seconds.

William Maclean gave AtoMc Orange a 5-0 edge at 1:37 of the period, from Cole Nahrgang and Nathan Boughner before Bryson Hughes made it 6-0 from Ty Massecar and Divonne Phillips at 2:21.

Gulas rounded out the game's scoring with his fourth goal to make it 7-0, with goaltender Simon Boucher picking up the lone assist.

KMHA ATOMC RED 6; NEW HAMBURG HUSKIES 2

Aiden Banton gave AtoMc Red a 1-0 lead at the 5:27 mark of the first period, assisted by Cade Hart and Dylan Kaufman.

AtoMc Red added to their lead in the early goings of the second period, as Tarun Talwar made it 2-0, from Milan Talwar just 14 seconds in.

Tarun Talwar's second of the game came just 48 seconds later, giving AtoMc Red a 3-0 lead, again assisted by Milan Talwar.

Milan Talwar scored his first of the game and third point of the morning, putting AtoMc Red up 4-0 at 4:50, assisted by Tarun Talwar and Noah Sneddon.

The Huskies would get themselves on the board before the period was out, as Derek Bell cut AtoMc Red's lead to 4-1 at 5:51, from Cameron Langer and Adrian Veugen to send the game to the third period.

In the third, Sneddon restored a four-goal lead for AtoMc Red, making it 5-1 from Adam Haves and Hart just 40 seconds into the period.

Less than a minute later Matthew Schaadt answered back for the Huskies, making it 5-2 from Charles Burke and Bell at 1:37.

The final goal came off the stick of Banton, his second of the game, unassisted at 4:53 to cement the 6-2 final.

WATERLOO RAVENS 2; KMHA LADY RANGERS 0

Deanna Bordman scored the game winner and added an assist as the Waterloo Ravens shut out the Kitchener Lady Rangers 2-0.

Bordman opened the game's scoring at 9:04 of the second period, assisted by Samantha Starr and Ysezanne Serieux to make it 1-0 Ravens.

Faith Scida iced the game for Waterloo making it 2-0 at 3:12, from Bordman and Brooke Beattie.

KMHA ATOMC BLACK 6; WMHA ATOMC RED 4

Liam Robertson's empty net goal sealed a 6-4 win for AtoMc Black over AtoMc Red in an exciting Game 4 thriller.

It was AtoMc Red that opened the scoring at 2:50 of the first period on a goal by Brendan Van Reenen, assisted by Tom Liu and Benjamin Green to make it 1-0. Less than a minute later AtoMc Red would make it 2-0, as Brett Verutis buried a pass from Cade Setler at 2:21 with Mitchell Cruickshank picking up the second assist, closing out first period scoring.

AtoMc Black got themselves on the board, cutting AtoMc Red's lead to 2-1 on a goal by Robertson, from Braeden Klaehn, at 2:11.

Verutis' second goal of the game came at 5:04 of the second period, restoring a two-goal lead for AtoMc Red, 3-1, from Setler and Robbie Macartney.

Just 54 seconds later AtoMc Black again cut the lead to one, as Robertson tallied his second of the game to make it 3-2, from Braeden Klaehn and Tyler Klaehn at 5:58.

AtoMc Black would climb all the way back, tying the game 3-3 with just 43 seconds to play in the second period as Robertson completed the hat trick, assisted by Braeden Klaehn and James Wunder at 9:17.

Brock Beddown gave AtoMc Black its first lead of the game, 4-3, just 46 seconds into the third period, with assists going to Cameron Schnarr and Evan Osborne.

Nathan Banerjee responded for AtoMc Red, making it a 4-4 game with 4:22 to play with Brendan Van Reenen picking up the single helper.

The game winner came at 6:41 when Osborne gave AtoMc Black a 5-4 lead, assisted by Ben Vannoord. Robertson's fourth goal of the game - an empty netter - secured the victory for the home team with just 51 seconds left to play, with Braeden Klaehn and Wunder picking up the assists.

WMHA ATOMC TEAL 4; KMHA ATOMC TAN 2

AtoMc Teal scored twice in the first minute of the third period en route to a 4-2 win over AtoMc Tan.

After a scoreless first period it was AtoMc Teal who took a 1-0 lead at the 48 second mark of the second period, as Ethan Andres buried a Fletcher Reynolds pass.

Just over a minute later the game was tied however, as AtoMc Tan made it 1-1 on the stick of Madison Kroetsch, from Griffin Jewer and Matthew Montgomery-Hinz, at 2:10.

AtoMc Tan took a 2-1 lead with 3:47 to play in the period, as Dominic George-Metaggart scored unassisted at 6:13, but the game would be tied heading into the third as Gregory Kuepfer evened things up at 2-2 with 58 seconds to play in the period. Enoch Banjo picked up the lone assist on the game tying goal.

The eventual game winner came just 22 seconds into the third period, as Reynolds from Andres made it 3-2 AtoMc Teal. Just 38 seconds later Kuepfer solidified the win with the insurance marker making it 4-2, from Andres and Banjo, at 1:00.

KMHA ATOMC TEAL 5; TWIN CENTRE STARS 3

Tied 3-3 headed into the third period, Cole Westerveld scored twice in the final frame to lift the KMHA AtoMc Teal over the Twin Centre Stars 5-3.

The Stars opened the scoring at 3:28 of the first period, as Andrew Shantz gave his team a 1-0 lead, assisted by Aidyn Challice.

AtoMc Teal responded less than two minutes later, making it a 1-1 game at 5:23 on a goal by Blake Shurr, assisted by Tyler Thompson and Colin Fedy.

With just 20 seconds to play in the opening period the Stars again took a one-goal lead, as Hunber Bender made it 2-1, from Isabella Blackstock and Logan Gillett.

AtoMc Teal battled back to once again square things up, this time 2-2, on a goal by James Murdoch assisted by James Vincent and Ryan Bishof at 4:10 of the second period.

With just 2:30 to play in the middle frame, Challice gave the Stars a 3-2 edge, assisted by Shantz at 7:30.

Just as it appeared that was how the game would go into the second intermission, the AtoMc Teal tied the game with less than one second to play as Nickalas Desideri made it 3-3, from Thompson and Mate Csapo.

Westerveld's first of the game came at 2:01 of the third period to give AtoMc Teal a 4-3 lead, from Michael Kennedy and Cole Murphy. The insurance goal came at 5:46, Westerveld's second of the game again from Kennedy and Murphy, to round out the scoring in Game 6.

KMHA ATOMC WHITE 5; WMHA ATOMC PURPLE 2

After trailing 2-0, the AtoMc White scored five unanswered goals to skate to a 5-2 win, and close out Hockey Day in Rangers Nation 2016.

Nate Gawthorn gave AtoMc Purple a 1-0 lead at 7:34 of the first period, assisted by Maguire Kurtz and Owen Rickert-Hall.

Just over three minutes into the second period AtoMc Purple took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Keelan Ropp, assisted by Gawthorn.

Just under a minute and a half later AtoMc White responded, as Elijah DaSilva got his team on the board from Joshua Schell-Marche and Matteo Hosdil to make it 2-1 at 4:37.

DaSilva struck again at 7:41, scoring the equalizer at 7:41 from Rooney Nguyen and Aidan Trensch to make it 2-2 and close out second period scoring.

Schell-Marche gave AtoMc White its first lead of the day, 3-2, at 3:04 assisted by Jack Waddich and Owen Secord. Just 35 seconds later Nguyen made it 4-2 White from DaSilva and Secord.

The final goal of the game, and fifth unanswered for AtoMc White came off the stick of DaSilva - his third goal and fourth point - to make it a 5-2 game from Trensch and Dubus at 4:46.
