13 Singles Leads to 10-1 Rout of Quakes

VISALIA, CA - On Recreation Ballpark's 70th Birthday the Visalia Rawhide (31-18) delivered with a 10-1 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (31-19) on Saturday night to even the series at a win apiece.

LHP Josh Taylor (1-4, 5.47) earned his first win of the season logging six innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits, a walk and he struck out six.

Rancho finished with seven hits total and only had more than one in the same inning one time the entire game while the combination of Taylor, RHP Blake Perry and RHP Jincy Solis kept the potent first place Quakes offense at bay.

Against RHP Yasiel Sierra (2-3, 8.44) the Visalia offense plated a run in the second inning and was off to the races from there. CF Colin Bray drove home the first tally after three straight singles loaded the bases with a sacrifice fly for 1-0 lead.

The second inning proved to be the undoing of Sierra, as he allowed the first seven men to reach base without recording an out before being lifted from the game. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases and then Sierra proceeded to allow three RBI walks and an infield RBI single to push the lead to 5-0. LHP Phillip Pfieffer came in and allowed an RBI fielder's choice and then RF Victor Reyes hit an RBI single to make it 7-0 after three.

Sierra went two-plus innings and was saddled with seven runs (earned) on seven hits, four walks and he picked up one strikeout in the loss.

The fifth inning saw Rancho score their only run against Taylor. Back-to-back singles led to 3B Jordan Tarsovich's RBI fielder's choice and the score was 7-1 Visalia.

The Rawhide answered in the fifth with a run of their on a SS Domingo Leyba sacrifice fly to make it 8-1 and then scored twice more in the sixth when C Tyler Baker singled in a run and LF Chuck Taylor lined a sacrifice fly for the final run.

Pacing the Visalia offense was Reyes with three hits and an RBI followed by 3B Dawel Lugo, who had three hits, an RBI and he scored three times. 2B Henry Castillo went hitless but did draw four free passes, he drove in a run and scored twice. Baker and Bray each drove in two runs apiece and the Rawhide offense scored all 10 runs on nothing but singles, connecting for 13 of them.

RHP Brad Keller (3-3, 4.04) will pitch for the Rawhide in game one of tomorrow's double header against RHP Andrew Sopko (5-0, 3.21) for Rancho followed by RHP Nick Baker (3-0, 2.45) for Visalia in game two vs. RHP Grant Holmes (4-2, 3.19) for the Quakes. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. for the 1:00 p.m. first pitch and it's an Family Fun Sunday presented by Carl's Jr. and the Helicopter Candy Drop for members of the Rawhide Kids Club under 12 will follow the conclusion of game two.
