Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - After celebrating the 4th of July holiday with a doubleheader sweep of the Bristol Blues on the road, the Worcester Bravehearts came home to face off against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. As the Bravehearts played a combined 14 innings yesterday, Worcester ended up playing 12 more innings against Martha's Vineyard, and walked off to pick up their 20th win of the summer.

Things didn't start so well for Kevin Stone (Harvard/Stamford, CT) and the Bravehearets, as the Sharks jumped on Stone for five runs in the second inning. Jacob Rhinesmith (Indian Hills CC/Shakopee, MN) made the biggest impact of the inning with a base clearing double, bringing home three runs. Stone lasted just two innings for Worcester, giving up five runs on five hits, walking three, and striking out three batters.

On the bump for the Sharks was Dylan Grove (Oklahoma/Oklahoma City, OK) and was just as wild as Stone. Grove gave up four runs on three hits, walked a total of seven batters and struck out four. John Friday (Franklin Pierce/Marlbourgh, MA) added a RBI double, as did Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA). Coggeshall extended his hit streak to 20-games, breaking the FCBL record for longest hitting streak in league history.

With the score 5-4 Sharks in the sixth inning, the visitors added four more runs, including a two- run home run from Tommy O'Hara (Tufts/Glenview, IL) to center field. This helped increase the Sharks lead to 9-4. In the bottom half of the sixth, Chad Miller (Saint Leo/Sarasota, FL) hit a RBI triple and later scored to narrow the deficit to 9-6.

After a pass ball scored a run for Worcester, Friday collected another RBI double, followed by a Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA) fielder's choice, which tied the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the eighth.

In extra innings, the Sharks jumped on the first pitch in the top of tenth with a booming solo home run from JD Andreessen (Campbell University/Depew, N.Y.) to left center field, pushing the score to 10-9. Yet, the Bravehearts continued to fight, as Rafael Bournigal (Mulberry, FL) drove home Miller on a RBI single to notched things back up at 10-10.

Worcester got solid relief from Danny Barlock (Holy Cross/Shrewsbury, MA) as he went 2 2/3 innings pitched, no runs, five hits allowed with one walk and three strikeouts. He would take the win in the game, thanks to a Dante Ricciardi (St. Petersburg/West Boylston, MA) RBI single to seal the walk off win for Worcester in the twelfth inning. Mac Curran (UMass Dartmouth/Lakeville, MA) would take the loss for the Vineyard.
