Madison Capitols News Release
MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols topped the Lincoln Stars, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
Madison (7-12-0-1) is ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference with 15 points. Lincoln (10-8-0) is ranked sixth in the Western Conference with 20 points.
The go-ahead goal for Madison came on a penalty shot from left wing Alec Broetzman. The forward skated down the center of the zone and backhanded a shot over the left pad of goaltender Derek Schaedig to give the Capitols a 3-2 lead at 18:42 of the third period.
Opening up the scoring for Madison, right wing Ryan O'Reilly skated through the neutral zone to the left wing boards. He sauced the puck over to right wing Kamil Sadlocha who snapped the puck in with 10:12 remaining in the first period.
For Lincoln's equalizer, left wing Hunter Johannes picked up the puck from behind the Capitols net. The winger spun around the net and fed a pass to center Ashton Calder, who tapped the puck over the goal line at 2:09 of the second period.
Defenseman Colin Felix gave the Capitols their second lead of the game, 2-1, at 15:35 of the second frame. Felix skated out of the box, and picked up the puck in the neutral zone. The defenseman wristed the puck, top shelf, over Schaedig for his second goal of the season.
Tying the game back up, 2-2, right wing Devlin McCabe deked past the Madison defense and roofed the puck in the top corner of the net past goaltender Dryden McKay. Center Gustaf Westland was credited with an assist at 14:45 of the final frame.
McKay (6-8-0) earned his sixth win of the season, stopping 35-of-37 shots. Schaedig (4-2-0) suffered his second loss of the season with 25 saves on 28 shots.
Madison was 1-for-9 on the power play. Lincoln went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
Notables: Madison snapped a seven-game losing streak...Left wing Alec Broetzman is on a three-game scoring streak...Forward Kamil Sadlocha is on a two-game point streak (1-12).
The Capitols hit the road to take on the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, December 16 with a 7:05 p.m. contest at Resch Center. Madison will return home on Saturday, December 16 for a rematch the Gamblers at 6:05 p.m. It is the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans who bring a new stuffed animal to toss on the ice after the Capitols first goal will receive a complimentary ticket to a future game.
