Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
Edinburg, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (6-3-4) deafeated Oklahoma City Energy FC (4-2-4) 3-0. The two first half goals and a goal in stoppage time was enough for the Toros to secure the home win.
The Toros started the game looking to find their offensive rhythm. In the 14th minute the Toros would find their first goal of the night. Rio Grande Valley's Jose Escalante's shot from distance took a deflection and passed through OKC Energy's goalkeeper, Cody Laurendi. The Toros were able to then double their lead in the 40th minute when Kyle Murphy was able to shoot after a quick turn. The goal was Murphy's first for the season.
In the second half, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros were cut down to 10 men on the field after Jose Escalante received a red card in the 59th minute. OKC Energy tried to take advantage of the extra man on the field. In the 69th minute OKC's Kyle Hyland tested the Toros' goalkeeper, Callum Irving, with a laser shot that the goalkeeper was able to save. Eric Bird found the net in stoppage time to extend the home team's lead and secure the win.
The Rio Grande Valley Toros play Sacramento Republic FC next on June 18 at Bonney Field. That match will kick off of 10:00p.m. OKC Energy FC will take on Swope Park Rangers next, also on June 18.
