MADISON, WI - Left wing Mick Messner nets a hat trick in the Madison Capitols 4-1 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Friday night. Madison is on a three-game win streak and a six-game point streak.

Madison (12-14-0-2) is ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference with 26 points. Waterloo (16-10-2-1) is ranked fifth in the Western Conference with 35 points.

Opening up the scoring for Madison, left wing Mick Messner skated in on a breakaway at 13:40 of the middle frame. Messner stole the puck from a Black Hawks defenseman and roofed his seventh goal of the season giving the Capitols a 1-0 advantage.

Putting the Capitols up by two, right wing TJ Sagissor netted his second USHL goal. Sagissor one-timed a shot from the hash marks, and left wing Brendan Walkom shoved the rebound toward the pads of goaltender Matej Tomek. Sagissor chipped Walkom's rebound into the back of the net with 4:48 remaining in the second period. Left wing Trey LeBarge was also credited with an assist.

Messner picked up his second goal of the night with 9:14 remaining in the last period. Skating in on a breakaway, Messner's initial shot stopped by Tomek. Center Anthony Callin picked up the loose puck in the slot and banged it off the right post. Messner was on the doorstep to nudge the puck over the goal line for his eighth goal of the season and a 3-0 lead.

Waterloo buried their first and only goal of the night at 16:09 of the third period. Center Jackson Cates skated in from the left point and fed a pass to center Jack Drury on the right doorstep. Drury one-timed the pass and the puck flew past netminder Dryden McKay for a score of 3-1.

For his third goal of the night and ninth of the season, Messner hit the empty net at 18:23 of the final frame.

McKay (11-10-0-2) earned his 11th win of the season, stopping 55-of-56 shots. Tomek (7-5-2-1) took his fifth loss of the season with 14 saves on 17 shots.

Madison was 0-for-2 on the power play. Waterloo went 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

Notables: Madison is on a six-game point streak, and three-game winning streak...Forward Mick Messner recorded his first career USHL hat trick...Goaltender Dryden McKay halted a career-high 55-of-56 shots.
