August 19, 2017 - Florida State League (FSL) - Fort Myers Miracle
TAMPA, Fla. - Zander Wiel and Brent Rooker each homered as the Fort Myers Miracle (37-18) captured their season-high tenth straight win with an 8-3 victory over the Tampa Yankees (36-17) on Saturday night.
Wiel's blast came with two outs in the first inning off RHP Taylor Widener (L, 6-8) to open the scoring. Widener proceeded to allow two more runs in the second on a Wes Wilson throwing error and Jermaine Palacios RBI-single to jump start the Miracle with a 5-0 lead.
Tampa chipped back to score a pair of runs against starter RHP Clark Beeker (W, 1-0) making his FSL debut. Devyn Bolasky lifted a sacrifice fly to left field in the second, and Kyle Holder homered in the third to cut the lead to three.
In the top of the sixth, Rooker pelted a towering home run to left field to put Fort Myers up 6-2. In a 6-3 game in the seventh, Rooker added to the lead with a two-run single to provide the 8-3 final.
Beeker churned out a quality start, going six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in his first start with the Miracle. LHP Michael Theofanopoulos tossed two hitless innings followed by one of the same from RHP Williams Ramirez to shut the door late.
The Miracle look for the series sweep and their eleventh straight win on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM ET with RHP Brady Anderson opposing RHP Albert Abreu.
