CEDAR RAPIDS- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have named Ray Ropa as their Veterans Liaison. Ropa, a Stanwood, Iowa native, graduated from Grand View College in Des Moines with a degree in Radio/TV production before relocating to Cedar Rapids where he now resides.

Ropa joined the Iowa National Guard where he served in the Infantry and Military Intelligence with several Iowa units over his 17-year career, retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 2014. He was deployed with the 1/168 Infantry to Kuwait and Afghanistan and was assigned to the Iowa Counter Drug Task Force. His awards include: Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars, NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device Counter Drug Service Ribbon.

Additionally, Ropa has volunteered his time over the past two decades with the Linn County Sheriff's Office where he retired in 2012, after serving 12 years as a Reserve Deputy. He currently volunteers his time with the Teufulhund Veteran's Group, where he is the Public Relations Officer and is also a member of the Cedar Rapids Jaycees.

He is the perfect fit for this new position here with the team, and we look forward to working with him and the Veterans of the Corridor this season and many to come."
