.38 Special In Concert Friday, July 23
May 3, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, NE - It was 30 years ago that the rock band .38 Special first hit the American music charts with the song "Rockin' Into the Night." On Friday, July 23rd, .38 Special will be rockin' into the night at Rosenblatt Stadium. The concert, presented by Werner Enterprises and 96.1 The Brew, will follow the Omaha Royals 7:05 p.m. game vs. the New Orleans Zephyrs and a Werner Enterprises Friday Fireworks show.
Formed in Jacksonville, Florida by neighborhood friends Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant in 1975, .38 Special enjoyed a string of successful albums and singles in the '80s. In 1981, the group's fourth studio album Wild-Eyed Southern Boys became the first of three straight to go platinum. The album included the band's first high-charting song "Hold On Loosely."
"Caught Up In You" (1982) and "If I'd Been The One" (1983) both hit #1 on Billboard magazine's Album Rock Tracks chart. "Back Where You Belong" (1984) continued the annual run of radio favorites and "Second Chance" (1989) closed out the decade for the group by giving them a #1 hit on Billboard's adult contemporary chart.
In 2007, .38 Special was the opening act on Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr.'s Rowdy Frynds Tour. Last summer, .38 Special opened for REO Speedwagon and Styx as part of the "Can't Stop Rockin' Tour" that played in concert at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. The tour was appropriately named for Barnes and Van Zant, who today are still members of .38 Special.
"Werner Enterprises is excited to sponsor the .38 Special concert for Royals fans, the people of Omaha and the surrounding communities," said Fred Thayer, Werner Enterprises' director of Corporate Communications. "This concert will be a great way to showcase the final year of historic Rosenblatt Stadium."
"We are proud of our partnership with Werner Enterprises as they continue their generous support of the Omaha metro area," said Royals Vice President/General Manager Martie Cordaro. "This is a great event that will add to the season-long celebration of Rosenblatt Stadium."
Tickets for the Royals game, Werner Enterprises Friday Fireworks and .38 Special concert on July 23 are priced at $13 for Field Box seats, $11 for Reserved seats and $10 for General Admission.
