The Rage was one of the original 20 announced IFL teams for 1999, a number whittled to eight before the season, not including Rapid City. In 2000, the Rage nickname was re-assigned to the Mankato, MN team, and Rapid City's team became the Black Hills Machine.
After the IFL ceased operations, a new franchise, the Red Dogs, began play in the National Indoor Football League
