Default Joe still at it. He hasnt skipped a beat.

Its been a year since Joe called me all kinds of names on the phone when I asked him a few questions. So, It was time to call again. This time I wanted some info on a franchise in Omaha ! Change the voice a little and block the call.... and off Joe goes.

Great League, Tradition, Growing, Expanding to Canada and Asia. Movie made about the league. On the internet, soon a TV deal. People in Europe want ABA. China begging for ABA to go there ( they pay all expenses, he mentioned that). VERMONT DEFENDING CHAMPS WITH SI writer as owner !!!!
He needs 10k down now to hold a spot because there are others in Omaha that have called him for a team and another 10K prior to the season.

HE HASNT SKIPPED A BEAT !!

20k man wow upgrade.

And he shouldn't be talking about expansion to China but this buffoon will say it and will get in trouble for it.

Hey Joe it's time to give a call to the NBA so they can rip your heart out.

Joe is a gifted salesman.

He told a friend of mine the following......

- record companies turned down the Beatles, don't let this opportunity pass you by.

- do you know that the only opportunity you cannot take advantage of is a missed opportunity.

- I'm looking for a right on!!! not a (tax) write off

- my only advice to you is move quick. Others are exploring this market as we speak.

- think of the value a professional sports franchise can get you that is non-monetary, the prestige, the cross promotion, the synergy, the name recognition, the ability to expotentially expand all your business holdings, its almost more valuble as a entity than as an investment.

- do you want in on the ground floor

- just remember to put this in your will. I have a big headache, a guy died and he owned a team, hes' worth millions, but his family is all fighting over the ABA team not his dollars, they know thats where the real value is.

it was actually very impressive. He asks questions too and responds to your answers as if it is exactly the perfect fit for the league. I take my hat off to Joe. He is an exceptional salesman, can't run a basketball league mind you but he can sell anything.

Due to numerous threats of legal action from certain people.......all of the above is my opinion only and it should be noted that I have never invested in the ABA. It is simply one mans opinion.

Joe Newman is an excellent salesman. I had this conversation with a friend today. Generally, though not always, salesmen and managers are cut from two different cloths. Managers tend to be more methodical, logical and organized. They're most satisfied when things are running smoothly. Salesmen, on the other hand, like to find unique solutions to problems. The challenge of finding unique solutions to getting buyers to buy your product is what drives them. They go home and tell stories of how they sold 50 units to someone who only needed 20 or how they got x amount when they would have settled for something less. Great salesmen typically do not make great managers, and vice versa.

I agree. We have it where I work, a sales team and managerial guys/girls who do the logistics. Frankly the amount of cross over is virtually nil. Only when sales guys get burnt out from the phone/travel or managers decide the sales guys are a bunch of idiots and they feel they can make the big money do we see any interest in crossing over.

I still think Joes' core idea is brilliant. A low cost, minor league with affordable basketball.

Problem is its being run by Joe.

They say one of the things that made the Soviet Union really stagger and fall was this idea that everything they did was perfect, they never made any mistakes. They hid stuff, lied about others and were smug when it did work. Problem was 200 million people who lived there saw the inner workings and knew they were being lied to.

Here on Planet Joe , the ABA hides stuff, lied about others and were smug when it did work. Problem was 200 people who actually take time to look at this league saw the inner workings and knew they were being lied to.

Does the heroin dealer begrudge the coke dealer, or is the competition good for both of them? If a guy's just trying to provide affordable family Schedule One drugs, why do you have to go and be so meanspirited?

When the product sucks and it fails to meet total expectations of professionalism or quality.

I'm reminded of two lines by Alec Baldwin's character from the movie "Glenngary Glen Ross"
Blake: "You wanna go out on those sits tonight and close, close, it's yours. If not, you're going to be shining my shoes. Bunch of losers sitting around in a bar. (in a mocking weak voice) 'Oh yeah, I used to be a salesman, it's a tough racket.' "

(He pulls something out of his briefcase)
Blake: It takes brass balls to sell real estate.

You remember the lines, but not the name of the film?
