Default Let me know what you think

This is something to my fellow ABA owners. I was just brainstorming here in Houston and think it would be a good idea to spread the love, hell why not right.

Years ago, my wife and I went to WCW match here in Houston to see Goldberg. After the match, since we were on the floor we could take the chairs home.

So what Im thinking about is getting a sponsor to put their logo on the back cushion and you can put your team logo on the seat cushion. And at the end of the game the courtside fan can take the chair home which would be a good look for the sponsor. The fan can even get their chairs autographed by all players and owner of course.

What magic number from sponsors could we put on this?

SERIOUS POSTERS ONLY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SERIOUS POSTERS ONLY???????

This is the ABA......you CAN NEVER BE SERIOUS (LOL)!!!

And BTW, what sponsor wants his/her logo seen by ONLY 20 people (thats including the 10 players on the floor, 2 refs, coaches and family in attendance)????

I've seen colleges use the customized vinyl folding chairs for years now. Let's break down the cost of what you want to do:

The padded chairs themselves, plus the customized application of logos, will probably run you around $40 per chair. A typical basketball court can hold approximately 100 of these folding chairs around 3 sides of the court. So that's $4,000 right there in chairs. And you want to give them away? Multiply that by 18 games, and you're up to $72,000 in "chair expense" right there.

The chairs themselves are going to cost more than the price of the ticket to sit in them. Yeah, that'll work.

I got a company quote at $25 per chair, just work with me and not against me. Now if it can work then lets make it happen but if you feel the over head is too much then thats whatsup. Im only here to see if it could actually work with some other good brains helping out.

At $25 a pop, that sounds like a chair that's so cheap people aren't going to want to sit in it. Remember, this is courtside seating so people are going to expect to be comfortable.

Also remember that the folks who typically sit in courtside seats will be repeat customers (they should be sponsors and season ticket holders - if you're doing your job right). They aren't going to want to keep hauling chairs home and stack them up in their living room.

A far less expensive option that I've seen is a vinyl backrest topper. They are shaped like the backrest of the seat and just fit right over it, and they only cost $3-4 including the logo application. Assuming your venue has access to padded folding chairs that you can use, this makes the most sense as they are reusable.

Gotta disagree......when those bleachers are pulled out (and remember, this is a jr high or high school) that leaves little to nothing left on the floor for chairs. Where will they inbound the ball with the chairs there? And also, the distance between the hoop and the back of the wall at these schools is what.....8 feet? What happens when a player runs out for the ball and there are the chairs and the wall?

No, no, no.....school gyms (which is the venue of choice......I mean necessity and budget for the ABA) will not support chairs. Plus,....there will be PLENTY of room in the bleachers.

Hey Glue: I'm really glad someone is dreaming up some promotions. Maybe there is hope out there for this league.

Personally I'd do it for a season and not a game, for season tix holders, all of them. In all honesty you are probably talking $15-40 bucks if you were to try and sell them.

I like the idea though. Assuming all the players have matching uniforms I'd do it with the shirts too after every game.

Honestly, I like the backrest only idea from besl. When I started reading the thread, that is what I immediately thought of too.

You should be able to get about $5 to $10 a pop from a sponsor for it (figuring about 50 a game for 18 games). Since it's something that could be autographed by the players, taken home, and put on a shelf (please, no ABA jokes, I'm trying to be serious here), it would have value to a sponsor.

The way I would work it is to have the person who seats them (or have someone go around just before tipoff) actually put one behind each person who paid for the courtside seat and explain that they can have it autographed and taken home with them. This way, you establish a rapport with the fans and you prevent the bleacher people from taking them (the idea being to make sure that you have enough to last the year).
