When asked what insurance, disabiltity and other benefits players in the ABA have, and when asked what relations he has on the ABA payroll, here is what he wrote back to me.

and I quote

"Scott. I have had enough of you to last me a lifetime. You are a miserable person.
Do me a favor. Write to David Stern and ask him to send you a list of all of the NBA teams and their insurance plans. Then, ask him about any single person in the NBA.

And, do you know what his answer will be? None. Because he will know you are an absolute jerk. And unlike me, he's smart enough to ignore you. There are no members of my family on the ABA payroll. And just like everything else you write - it is fabricated nonsense. Punk.

With all due respect, your email with Joe is hugs and kisses campared to some of the classics from the past that I and a few others have enjoyed.

The funniest things about all of them - and Joe's unwavering bluster - is that he never addresses any of the questions he's asked. He has a thesaurus full of insults, put-downs and pithy comments and, DAMMIT, he's gonna use them.

Very few things are a funny and sad at the same time as Joe Newman's public comments.
