This may date me (as rather old), but are the Komets still on WOWO? (does WOWO still exist?).

Yes, the Komets are still on WOWO 1190 am out of Ft.Wayne.
WOWO is a news/talk station now, but in its day was a 50,000
watt powerhouse. It could be picked up in the evenings form
New Brunswick to the Bahama's. It is still pretty powerful, but
the FCC has reduced it's power circle after 7pm @ night. It
still carries Komet games, Indy 500, Brickyard 400 & IU sports.

In my day (the days of the real IHL, Go Gems), if you answered your phone during the Christmas holiday time "Ho Ho WOWO" and it actually was the station's DJ calling, you won $50 (a lot back then).

Back in those glorious days (the 70s), my beloved Gems used to kick the Komets' a$$ with regularity. That doesn't mean Dayton always won the games, if you get my drift.

I think the Komets won there share against the Gems. I remember the 70's well.
Rumors have a new team coming into the IHL from Dayton. Any truth to that?
Oh BTW. Since we were discussing Bob Chase, ironically he announced his re-
tirement on Friday. He'll retire from everyday sports duties @ WOWO but will
come back in the fall of 09 as the voice of the Komets for the 57th year. He
is in his eighties so its great that the good Lord has given him strength to
carry on....

I haven't lived in Dayton for more than 20 years (my mother-in-law still lives in Huber Heights), so I haven't heard much about a new team. The ECHL team is going on hiatus for a year, citing bad economy (what sent the Gems out of business in the first place -- averaging close to 5,000 one year than 1,000 the next after problems with GM Delco in the late 70s left Wright Patterson as the only stable employer in the area, also what killed the Flint, Saginaw, Port Huron and Grand Rapids franchises).
