An intriguing venture, no doubt. I'll be paying close attention.

I almost want to work my way into a playing situation in Jacksonville, since it's close to home. Not a lot of movement for a first year league though, unless I'm just completely out of the loop.

Personally, I think the league will take off. I have spoken with Duane Jenkins, the owner of the league and he seems to have everything together. He is working with the local communities, is reaching out and has the money to make it work.

Just my two cents......

Default USBA will play

I had long talk with Jenkins and the league has some good things going for it. Like any new league (with that many teams to come online) there will be some failures but all in all I see the USBA as having the potential to be a quality product...time of the year is good...geographics for travel very good...league involvement and support good...concept of true "franchise" owners have control but cannot take team out of league the USBA owns team name/location/contracts etc. very interesting... we need to recognize them and give them a board on OSC

What do the USBA and other leagues need to accomplish, prove, etc. to get their own spot on the board of OSC? What makes them legitimate in the eyes of Our Sports?

I'm really not sure what to think about this league or any new league right now other than to be skeptical. They say the guy behind this is well funded. Talk is cheap, so who knows. What is important is that there are like 14 teams or whatever and all or most are owned by the league. The league is trying to sell them off. So depending on all the things we discuss with other leagues all apply here. How much are they paying for players, what venues are they playing in etc. If the expenses are too high and revenues are lacking (we are in a recession) eventually any smart investor will pull the plug. Time will tell.

I'd assume playing a game or lockign down some actual arena deals would be enough to get a message board. The league ownership should contact Paul and ask.

Although the USBA web site does not reflect it, several postings on www.usbasket.com by the "USBA Media" lists 12 teams with some variations to the 14 listed on the league site. League-play is supposed to start on 4/11/09. Who knows what the final line-up will be?
