Chris Cochrane writes really great opinion pieces and knows his stuff. Between his columns and having Chad Lucas as a full time basketball beat reporter the Chronicle Herald has great coverage of local basketball.

Yeah, Cochrane knows his stuff. He's not just a blowhard like Alex Wailling. He brings up some good points.

I sometimes wonder why other markets don't get close to the same media coverage. A team like Rochester seems to draw well, and play in a large enough market.

It all comes down to competition. There are three pro teams and a DI hockey team that compete for coverage during their season/preseason here, while Syracuse basketball and the Bills and Sabres also receive their share of coverage. But, with the Amerks' struggles on the ice, that may open up the door to a bit more coverage during the season...
