Garry Templeton
Has anybody heard where Garry Templeton has landed? I haven't seen him since winter ball in Yuma where he was begging for a job. He even tried to get Cory Snyder to hire him as an assistant bench coach. The Flyer have done a great service to their club by hiring a class act like Gary Carter. The players love playing for him and their first place standing speaks volumns.

Garry
Garry is taking the season off for the first time in years. He is spending time with his family, grandkids, and playing golf. He is very happy, and seems more relaxed now than he has been in a while.
Funny that you would talk about class in the same paragraph as you rip apart Garry by saying he was "begging" for a job - it's just an observation that struck me as sort of funny.
I agree that Carter has done a solid job with the Flyers, and having Darrell Evans and Danny DiPace there has been a huge lift, as well. They are all excellent coaches, and I consider Darrell and Danny close friends. I have only met Carter once, but he seems like a good guy. He just needs to stop lobbying for other people's jobs in New York!
Templeton is a good man, and a good friend, but it was time for him to move on from the Flyers for many reasons. He will be coaching in Affiliated ball again next season...
I hope you have removed the "EX" from your name. The Flyers are a solid organization, run by some good people, and they are obviously a good team on the field, as well. As I told all my old staff members and players after they left, "once a Flyer, always a Flyer!"
I still feel the same way, and am very happy with the success they are having.
I hope all is well!

Ex Flyer Fan Wake Up
I can not help but say that begging from Templeton is a complete line of bull****, the guy can sign on the dotted line anywhere, so hotshot when did he beg Cory Snyder in the AWL, I can say that Cory was really making a push for him in the AWL and he wanted to kick back and spend time with his family like Ed just said.
Gary Carter a class act, he is such and ******* and the reason there team is half way decent is because of Evans and Dipace, plus there record is so good as they played no one, please remember when Yuma sees them in the playoffs, Yuma will spank them and if you dissagree look at when they had 9 losses, 7 were against Yuma! So Carter isn't that good, he just hasn't played anyone other then Yuma.

Yuma Heat
Got to say Yuma you get a little hot when you disagree with someone. You are absolutely right when you said Darrell and Danny are the real reason the Flyers are playing as well as they have been. And you were also right when you said the Scorpions have got the Flyers number. And that's fine with me because my favorite team is the Yuma Scorpions. They have a great bunch of guys that really care about each other. Class team, class organization. But you are wrong a couple of things too. If Templeton COULD sign on the dotted line somewhere he would have by now. And don't give me that crap about wanting to spend more time with his family. A coach's time frame to coach is as limited as a players time frame to play. You don't just take time off and expect to have someone sign you when you're good and ready. Players can't do it, coaches can't do it, especially when you're last job was getting fired in the GBL. By the way I hope the Scorpions continue to kick butt even without Mike as their manager.

Clarification...
Just so everyone knows - and I really don't care if ex Flyer Fan reads this or not...
Garry Templeton was not fired by the GBL. First of all, he signed a three year deal originally, and after year two, the GBL sold the Flyers to a private ownership group, and they retained Garry for the 3rd year of his contract.
It was a mutual decision by the Flyers AND Garry to not sign a new contract after the 3rd season (same as it was with me), so he was NOT fired, and to make statements like that shows a lot...proves a lot..about the person who made them...people should not speak of things of which they do not know...
I am speaking up because I do know, first hand, on this one.
Second, managers and coaches actually CAN coach when they are ready. The offers Garry had were on the east coast, and just as is the case with ANY job, decisions on quality of life, proximity to family, etc., must be considered before accepting a job.
Perfect example is Charlie Hough.
He was offered jobs at nearly every level with several teams, before accepting to be our pitching coach with the Flyers. He lives in Brea, CA, which is the next city over from Fullerton. Now, he is coaching with the Dodgers in San Bernardino, again because it is what he wants, and because he wants to stay close to home. He turned away lots of offers in other parts of the country to be near home. He sat out several seasons until the right offer came along.
I am not sticking up for Garry at all, here. My only point is that he will coach again if he wants to, and YES, he did turn down offers (I know, because I have spoken with two MLB teams that wanted him, and he turned THEM down this season for jobs in their minor league organizations).
It is sad that you think it is crap that someone would actually turn down a coaching job to spend more time with his family. Look around...it happens ALL the time. I could probably name about 50 coaches at all levels that sat out a year or two to be with family, only to go back and coach or manage. It is a VERY regular occurrence. I know, EFF, that you don't like Garry - that is extremely well documented in this forum, but please, stop spreading negativity about someone simply because you don't like him. We get it. Ex Flyer Fan and Garry Templeton will probably not be seen at the same dinner table. That is clear. Move on, and leave the guy alone.
My point here is to stick up for Garry Templeton, the man. I am not addressing whether or not he is the best manager ever - let everyone else debate that. I am saying, however, that Garry Templeton is a friend of mine who deserves better, and when I see someone going after him the way you are, as a loyal friend to Garry, I cannot sit back and stay quiet.
Did he make mistakes? Of course. But he is a good man, and has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know, inside baseball or out, and he deserves better.
Stop throwing garbage into other people's yards, and clean up your own yard.
Ed

Truth...
Yes, just about everything you said was absolutely right on point Ed. He chose to take the year off, even after offers had come in, but he really didn't want to travel as much this year. He wanted to be close to home and he did want to spend time with his family, golf, and have a relaxing year. I was just at his home, not too long ago, picking up some bats that GT2 had asked me to pick up. Garry Sr. looks awesome, has lost quite a few pounds, causing him to look almost 10 years younger. He was happy, had a smile on his face, joking with me, and talking a little bit about baseball. Next year you will see his face in the game again, undoubtedly.
I too know the whole story, first hand, as not only am I GT2's hitting buddy, I consider them both very good friends. I have no idea why anyone would take time out of their day to insult a man, or anyone for that matter, who has accomplished what he has in the game and not actually know the person as well as you believe. He is actually an awesome individual, who I believe is misunderstood because of his passion for the game and the fact that he is distant. But, he has earned the right to be a little distant. Ever been to a World Series as a player, after a huge blockbuster trade that everyone believed outwardly was going to be a bust? I didn't think so...
Shameful...
Ed and Yuma, I hope you're doing INCREDIBLY well!!!

Ex Flyer Fan
Welcome back Ex I haven't seen your postings in a long while. I know you rub some people the wrong way at times but I enjoy what you have to say. I see you still get under Ed’s skin and I see he still has that PR spin down pat. I’ve noticed in the past you seem to know a little more about what’s going on than the rest of us. I remember last year when Ed kept trying to figure out who you were because, I guess, you were coming up with things that only someone in the organization or league would know. I can’t blame Ed for that, it would make me a little tense too I guess. My take on this is, and I could be wrong, is that you are in the organization or league and just want people to know a little more than the fluff that is fed the rest of us. To me there hasn’t been any harm done to anyone just a disagreement on Garry Templeton’s character and his ability to manage a baseball team. I have a suspicion that you know Garry and Ed VERY well. To me I hope I never find out who you are, it makes it more interesting.

That is Funny...
Mary:
That was pretty funny! I also like your typo (or is it??) "massaging" instead of messaging! That is hilarious!
I shouldn't have said anything. Ex FF and I have had an up and down relationship for 4 years, and we have had some fun together, too. If it is who I think it is, EFF is harmless, and we have had our moments...he always took care of Yuma when they came to town - brownies, meals, etc. In many ways, he made my job easier, but in some ways...well, he made a job a JOB!
Isn't this fun? I am cracking up...
As the immortal Rodney King said in 1991, "Can't we all just get along?"
Glad we all still have our opinions, and that we all feel free sharing them...I love this country!
God Bless Us EVERYONE!!!
Heading out to the Flyers games now, actually!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

OK, THAT was classic...
I'm actually on my way out the door to go to a Pads game, for whatever reason. Maybe meet up with Dave Gonzalez and say hi to a good friend in Edgar Gonzalez, who happens to be doing QUITE well with the Pads.
Enjoy the game Ed!
Mary, you guys are missed!!! Reunion time yet? haha
