Default Revolving Doors in Reno

Ok, with the revolving doors never stopping in the Sox bullpen, I was left wondering about a question I've always been curious about..

Does the GBL or individual team pay to transport these players around the Country??

I imagine the players need some compensation to get to the cities/towns to play ball.

Then what happens when they are released, cut, or put on the inactive list ??
Do they get any travel $??

I'm sure if picked up by a MLB team they are flown to where they need to be with meal money.

The players get meal money on the road. Not sure of the amount but I know the complaint is that all they can afford is McDonalds.

If a player is cut, it works like the NFL. There are no guarenteed contracts.

Not sure if the new guys get flown in but since it is a try-out and these guys really need a job, I would suspect that come in on their own dime. But I am not sure of that.

The league does nothing on their own for new and released players (which I think is what you are asking)... the teams are responsible. If the player gets money to travel in to join the team (new player) or when they are released depends on their contract. Generally they get going home money.
Barely enough for McDonalds...guys on the team get something like $17 or $18 a day on the road for food... obviously, they travel on a team bus. OC has a chartered bus, the league owned teams used to have league owned buses, but they were junk so I don't know now...

That dollar amount is right about what I used to get from the US Army when I was traveling on Army business (to/from duty stations and TDY (Temporary Duty assignments) and such).

Not a kings ransom by any stretch of the imagination, but enough to actually eat. Really it's only meant to subsidize what the player's already pay out for food.

So, if you're a good food budgeter, then one might pay $5 for breakfast, $10 for lunch and $10 for dinner (cooking at home) so the $17 or so dollars in addition to the $25 one might "normally" spend is really bumped up to $42 a day.

At least that's how Uncle Sam explained it to me.

The meal money is 18 dollars a day and 2 dollars of that goes to pay the clubhouse manager both at home and on the road where you are provided peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As far as if it can cover food, usually it does. Canada is an exception both because of higher prices and the lack of cheap eating options. When it comes to travel money to and from that is only provided for veteran players. This only applies to the league owned teams, the private teams may be different. So for many players when you get released it is up to you to find a way home on your own. The buses are all coach buses and are all fairly new and in good shape. And if anyone has any other questions about things from a players perspective feel free to ask.
