Default ABA All Access Show 03/29/08

ABA All Access Show # 26
Sat., March 29, 2008
ABA CEO: Joe Newman
ABA "Around The League" News
http://www.audiosportsonline.net/ABA...ss.htm?abalive

This pretty much sums up why the ABA is in such bad shape ...

Listen to 4:50 - 5:35

Yes, the ABA CEO is just an "interested observer" of his own league ...

This year, it was the "least" attended game day participation by the ABA CEO "ever" ...

The ABA CEO has had "other committments" and "situations" that made him "too busy" to attend ABA games ...

So, let me get this straight, the ABA CEO was to busy for the ABA this season ...

Ummm ... Whose job is it to manage and run the league

For "former broadcaster" Chris Fells ... Listen from 8:22 - 8:51

Fells, did you really get the "other side of the story?"

The ABA and the ABA CEO ... Always playing the role of the Victim Listen to 15:56 - 19:05

Hey Halifax ... Wow, you just got slammed by the ABA CEO in a public forum.

What's YOUR side of the Story? Listen 19:05 - 28:32

Brad Hester ... Still with the ABA ... Oh yeah, Did I mention he's PT ??? Listen from 33:00 - 38:35

According to the ABA CEO, there's just NOT ENOUGH work for the position of VP of Team Operations at this point during the season ...

Basicially, that translates into the ABA has no financial stream = no available $$$ for payroll!

The ABA CEO states ABA Expansion is ENORMOUS ... and for next season - 50 Teams!
Listen to 46:40 - 52:21

Default ...

The ABA CEO says (4:48 - 4:50) ...

"When you do it right, you can't miss."

My response to the ABA CEO would be ...

"Hmm ... Why then, can't YOU get it right?"

This is the only sports podcast where they talk to owners and CEO's. The one on 3/16 had Joe waxing about how the ultimate sales university was such a great dea.

You never hear a player, you never hear calls from "fans", you always here about the business end.

I think Robbie actually does a good job but during the season it should be players and in the off season do the CEO and owners.

Due to numerous threats of legal action from certain people.......all of the above is my opinion only and it should be noted that I have never invested in the ABA. It is simply one mans opinion.

Considering how ABA owners write, you want to hear them speak?

Thumbs down Guess I'm weak...

I tried to listen to the podcast but as soon as I heard that voice, like finger nails across the blackboard, I had to click off. Thank you for the recap and I'll take your word for it. jack

If the owners are dumb, can you imaginwe how the p[layers will sound? The ABA is NOT about basketball so why talk to the players? No stats kept and few even care. Of course, it is better than getting a real job I suppose!

Congrats to the Heaves fans. Hopefully you'll get a real team in a real league next season and win a real trophy some day.

Hey Bomp - thanks but I saw the trophy - stood right next to it in Quebec after the championship game....where were you? It was a real trophy earned by a real team made up of real people playing their heart out!

Go Heaves!

DogRiver - they might be a real team who played their hearts out in front of a real trophy.

But its tantamount to me getting in my Ford and driving 500 miles to Indianapolis and Bomp presenting me a trophy that says "PAUL S - Winner of the 500 miles to Indianapolis Race". My wife in her Honda raced against me and some guy in a truck seemed to be going in the same general direction.

On my official website I have a photo of this trophy surronded by links to various online stores selling tampons and picture frames, a sales course I dreamt up off the top of my head and a link to a way for 10k you can also drive to Indy next year.

Yes its a real trophy in that it exists and is something you can pick up and touch, but its not a real trophy that anyone with common sense will recognize and/or appreciate.

This doesn't really mean anything. If you guys had played another 7 teams like the Vermont Frost Heaves it would mean something. But you played under financed, rec-league quality, no hopers.

Again, Vermont is the class of the ABA. You are truly a great organization and your fans are top class. But what amazes me (its incredible that ANYTHING can amaze me about this league) but what amazes me is you are the ones with the most to gripe about. You are being cheated the most.

You are paying good money to a good franchise to see the Frost Heaves play against a bunch of Taco Bell employees, security guards and repo men who play on weekends and yet you think this is some monumental victory.

These poor saps have paid $150 bucks to try out for a team and they play Hanks Hammers as a tune up and drive up to Quebec, all 15 squeezed into a 12 seat van and when you beat them you have this idea that your win is second only to the 1980 US Olympic hockey teams gold medal in terms of upsets.

1. Congratulations on your victory. While it may not be the Indy 500 at the brickyard its better than not racing at all. At least you don't have to listen to your wife raz you about how she's the better driver in the family.

2. I can't argue or even make this one humorous. The League website is a poorly maintained piece of crap.

3. Nor is any minor league basketball trophy except to a select few fanatics like Chuck who've dedicated their lives to covering minor league basketball.

4. The final 8 tournament had good quality teams and very competitive games except for SD vs ATL. I have no qualms with the level of basketball played there. The regular season has its duds but so did the CBA with ATL. The PBL did a good job balancing teams, but that was a result of the league stepping in and spending the cash. That's the main area where the PBL has the advantage over the ABA. Front office management. It can't be argued.

5. Paul S you will not find a Frost Heave fan who feels they are being cheated. The team provides us a service which we never had before and does it for a reasonable price. Barre is the heart of the fanbase and the Aud is a short court. Therefore we are restricted to the ABA. The team isn't cheating us. They make the best with what Barre has to work with.

6-7. Beating Texas and San Diego on consecutive nights with an injury depleted roster is a monumental victory in my book. This year it was on a neutral floor as well. We as a fanbase take pride in these guys accomplishments. They are not nameless people. The players are a part of our community and we take pride in their accomplishments. Perhaps its just our country bumpkin ways as you have pointed out in other posts. For every Boston Blizzard road team we got to see a Manchester or a Halifax. You take the good with the bad. Paul how many of the games did you see from Quebec? I would wager not many. While your gross generalizations may describe some weaker teams they don't describe all of them.
