Default Windsor meets NBL deadline

http://thechronicleherald.ca/sports/...s-nbl-deadline

"NBL owners should find out today how many cities they’ll be officially considering for expansion entries for the 2012-13 campaign.

The National Basketball League of Canada had been in negotiations with five Ontario cities that were kicking the tires on the upstart circuit, which tips off its second season in the fall.

But three of those groups have gone by the wayside, only one is moving forward for certain and the fate of the other should be clearer today."

By adding Windsor they could have two divisions with four teams in each division. Adding one team this year is a good move. If the other team comes on board, then 5 in one division and 4 in the other would work.

Maritimes
Halifax
Saint John
Summerside
Moncton

Ontario/Quebec
Quebec(or what ever city they play in next year)
Oshawa
London
Windsor

That's just peachy with me...establishes a solid eight teams, makes for a reasonable two-division/conference alignment, gets it set up in a SORELY underrated market and beautiful arena, and will set up an AMAZING rivalry (the Knights-Spitfires rivalry is already big in the OHL, a Windsor team's with the Lightning will be the same way-Windsor will also benefit from being the closest team to the USA)

The league will balance out nicely. Last year, they played 36 games in the regular season. Play 16 out of division (2 home, 2 away per opponent). That would actually be just two trips from the Maritimes to the Quebec/Ontario and visa versa per team. You could set those up so everybody makes those trips at once. Then 20 in-division games (face two opponents seven times — three at home and four on road for one, four at home and three on the road for the other; the third you would play six times — three at home and three on the road). Top two in each division makes playoffs —*best of three in division and best of five for championship.
Now if you want to get kinky. I'd send the London team to the FIBA Americas League for 2012-13. Play runs roughly from December to March. You play in a four-team pool, followed by a four-team semifinal pool and a four-team final pool.

Default More news, this time from local press in Windsor

http://www.windsorstar.com/Windsor+m...859/story.html

"He added one of the main investors has shared information about the possible logo, team colours and even the look of the team. Francis said the investors have also been looking into possible venues for games. When asked if the WFCU was being considered, the mayor replied "that's fair to say."
