BEDFORD, TEXAS - The Southwest Texas Mustangs (http://www.swtxmustangs.us) will own and operate their new United Basketball League team in Bedford, Texas. The announcement was made today by owner Mike Meister. This is a team thread to provide information and updates about the Southwest Texas Mustangs and the United Basketball League.

United Basketball League
The United Basketball League (UBL) is a spring professional minor basketball league in the Southwestern United States. Originally founded by Mac Claire in 2006 as the Regional Basketball League, the UBL is scheduled to begin its inaugural season in the spring of 2008. With an aim to provide stable, family-friendly baseketball teams for all to enjoy, the UBL expects to begin play with 10-14 teams in cities with populations between 100,000-300,000 in places such as Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, Arizona and Louisiana. Its rules and style of play include a shot clock shortened to 20 seconds and 5 seconds to advance the ball past midcourt to promote a consistently up-tempo game. Teams will be geographically located to create a favorable travel schedule where players and coaches may return home on most nights. The UBL is presently in its organizing stages this off-season and more new franchises will be announced in the coming months.

The Southwest Texas Mustangs, City of Bedford and the United Basketball League Announce The New UBL Team is Coming to Bedford, Texas

BEDFORD, TEXAS – November 1, 2012 - The Southwest Texas Mustangs (www.swtxmustangs.us) will own and operate their new United Basketball League team in Bedford, Texas. The announcement was made today by UBL Commissioner Ozzie Denson and Owner Mike Meister.

“Having the ability to own and operate an United Basketball League team in Bedford, Texas once again illustrates our ownership's outstanding commitment to creating a culture of success,” said Mustangs Owner Mike Meister. “Player development is at the core of our process and being able to operate our own team so close to home will place us in the most strategic position to take an active part in the player development process.”

Entering its 6th season, the United Basketball League is a semi-pro basketball league based in Mesquite, Texas. The Southwest Texas Mustangs becomes the 10th team in the league and will begin play in the upcoming 2012-13 season at the Bedford’s Boys Ranch Activity Center in Bedford, Texas.

“We’re very excited to welcome the Southwest Texas Mustangs to a rapidly-expanding group of UBL teams realizing the advantages of playing in one of the top semi-pro basketball leagues in the country,” said UBL Commissioner Ozzie Denson. “The combination of supportive city leadership and an outstanding organization in the Mustangs leads us to believe the future of the team in Bedford, Texas is very bright.”
